    Hey all... first post :)

the title describes most of my question to you all.
The p-6831 in question is pretty much straight out of the box. Been planning to upgrade here and there but havn't done so just yet (has not been any major need as of yet...)
At any rate - i saw that a few people, including aziani said they'd increased their fan speed to 100%. I would like to do the same, but cant find any way to do it.

asked gateway support... you know, not for any good reason, more for the lulz.... answer was:
'Thank you for contacting Gateway. I apologize for the inconvenience that you have experienced. Your notebook computer does not have option to increase the fan speed.' - thanks gateway...

anyways - i cant believe that theres no way to up fan speed, ive tried using a few tuning apps like ntune, rivatuner etc... but the option was greyed out or didnt exist in either respectively. Im thinking there must be some way to do so - ive read in a few places that there is a method, but for the life of me i cant think of anything.

    Thanks For Reading!

I'd like to pose the same question for the 7811 as well. I've done all the things you described, but I have the same issues.

    you too huh gamadaya :(

im almost completely sure that there is a method - ive read on the net like 4-5 guys complain of the problem... but they normally find the solution... and good thing for us - dont decide to share lol...
so if there are any FX pro's out there with the answers we're seeking - please HELP!

Am kinda dissappointed that i cant run DOW2 Beta... i get the thing running - goes great (smooth as a whistle, even on high settings) but inevitably it overheats after 10-20mins of play... and it is a inch off the surface and i have a cooler (its not pacific breeze but still does the job okey up to 7C off)

well, on ntune monitors it tops off at abot 108C... then shuts down if i push it anymore :)

you guys getting the shutdown thing or is it just generally too hot...
also - what kinda cooling/mods have you carried out? :p
i saw this theory on somewhere that in the 6831 specifically, the CPU was too weak and taxxed the GPU additionally - but i dont think thats realistic... chip in if you've upgraded CPU - mines still stock :p

I lapped my heatsink, and I've got As5 on my x7800, it seemed to keep it cool. I've never seen my cpu or gpu above 85.

    wow... you lapped the thing?!

didn't think that was possible on a laptop, any problems doing it?... also did you use the normal process with the soap and the sandpaper and the sink and all that?
ALSO - how much did it take off the temps?
    lapping might help me out

you know what would really get to the bottom of this question... if the overheat shut down is a result of taxxing the card too much, or if its a question of software...well...crappiness...lol
if someone wants to give dow2 beta a shot - its up free on steam for SS purchasers...
if anyone out there has a P6831 and like dawn of war... tell me whats goin on for you :p

ive upgraded drivers to dox optimised drivers, and im gonna make sure vsync is off accross the board - and see if it runs any longer - wish me luck!

Yeah, lapping the heatsink and the northbridge wasn't that hard. It's got such a small surface area that it doesnt take much effort. i used water and sandpaper. It took off about 2 degrees of my idle temp (Celsius). Chances are it has largely to do with the watch that it's still in beta. If you're overclocking the card then that would be your logical explanation, though. When the shutdown happens, does the machine completely turn off or does it freeze up, repeating the same sound over the speakers?

turn off completely - no OC as of yet - ive practically left it as new since i bought it...

im hoping its a beta thing :p

but id still like to be able to turn up the fan... i cant believe thered be no way - if the motherboard can change fan speed automatically... then there has to be a way we can :p
