After fiddling around with my p6860 to fix the texture issue in GTAIV (which didn't get fixed yet btw) and multiple defrag's, clean driver installs I decided to run 3dmark06 again. Results surprised.

Verdict? Use 180.70, clean install by going into safe mode, enjoy your p6860fx

    old news ;)

what with the strange resolution? 1440x900 is by far more close to the default 1280x1024 (pixel count).

wow, that's a nice score, even though it is off a clean install.

EDIT: ah, just noticed a little trickery on the screen res if i'm not mistaken.

The non-standard 1280x720 resolution is making your score higher. Your 6860 should be just as fast as any other 6860 with a T9300 installed, unless someone has broken physics :D

While your only breaking 10K due to the weird screen res, i will agree with you that the new DOX drivers are efficent as hell.

I get 10282 at 1440x900 with my rig (x9000 CPU/OC Vid Card) with a really untweeked system/ I would probably put on another 600+ points if i did a clean install and kept tuning my system to get the most out of it. And if i rant the tests under XP i would break 11K (but i dont like XP so thats nothing but synthetic nonsense to me ;) )

    Yeah.

The Dox 180.70 was like a god amongst men when it comes to drivers.

Not often you can say you post a 2K+ increase just with a driver and a competent OC.

I'm almost tempted to do a nice clean install. But i'd be too tempted to break my RAID so i could have Ubuntu back so i resist :p

    EDIT:
Another intresting thing to note about the DOX driver. Is its so efficent that i was able to down clock my GPU quite a bit and still maintain great FPS in the games i play. In dawn of war i was able to keep 100+ FPS and shave about 15 degrees off my running temps with a 400/550/1100 clock... that rocked

I dont think the t9300 is really holding you back that much in GTA.

It might be, but a t9300 is plenty of CPU for any game out. I would think it would be the 8800m GTS thats really holding us back on game preformance.

What settings are you running the game at?

It's definitely the T9300, GtaIV is known for it's cpu dependency. My cpu usage on both cores is 96-98% while playing. Thank God I upgraded from T5550 :D .

After checking into it it appears you are right. That game kicks CPU butt in all kinds of way.

I also like the fact that it appears to be multi threaded (yay for 4+ core games)

I guess we're all just going to have to break down and start getting Sagers and Arimas for the quad core goodness :p

Not yet, i'm sadly stuck in Mexico at work right now (and they wont let us bring laptops :( ) so i have to wait until the middle of December to get home and try it out.

I just scanned around and saw some of the systems people were using to play the game, and while some had really dominating GPU's sometimes the CPUs weren't top end. I think the 3.0 quad is pretty much the sweet spot for the game and anything over that you get deminishing returns

Though i've never been a computer GTA fan. I kinda like them on the playstation better i never have to worry about specs there :D

A few patches should fix the performance issues. Ya people with i7's are supposedly maxing this game out with 60+ fps.
