Hey guys, I was wondering which of these models were better for overall gaming? I know the 6860 has more RAM and a larget harddrive, but the 172x had a faster processor, but less RAM and smaller HD. Which is better overall?

I paid about a little over $300 to upgrade the 6860 to T9300, add Artic Ceramique and shipping costs.

How much will extra ram and a new hard drive cost?

New RAM and HD would be cheaper, but you would still be left with a worse CPU I believe, the P 172x has a 2GHz CPU correct?

I bought the P6860 largely because I have no intention of using the processor that came with it for long. Paying extra for a still substandard core 2 duo did'nt make sense to me. I was planning on upgrading to a T9300 basically from the beginning, after doing some research(price vs performance). As for adding a hard drive; You have a second bay and can easily add another HD. You'll need the same 2 HD'S if your doing raid.

Do you think Quad core chips will be made available for the P socket?

The P-172x fx comes with a 2.4ghz cpu, (2) 160gb 7200rpm Hard Drives in Raid 0, 4gb of ram and a better lcd screen17.0" WUXGA TFT Active Matrix (1920 x 1200 max. resolution), its not a bad value by any means. List price for a P-172x FX is currently $1,999.99, you can get at lest 10% off of that making it $1,800.00 . The P-6080fx is a great laptop also at $1,299.99 and to upgrade it to the P172x fx would not be cost effective. $500.00 difference to pay for the CPU $249.99, the LCD $318.00, the hard drive I will leave out of this analogy because there are many ways to go with this option. Also if you do all of these upgrades you chance voiding your warranty. That being said if you want a great Laptop for $1.299.99 then buy the P-6080fx, if you think you want to upgrade right away, the buy the P-172x fx. I have both models and have to say they both run awesome, I like my LCD on my P-171x fx better, but not a big deal.

(I did not include any warranty or taxes)

    I also bought ltn170wu-l03 from LCDSuper.com.
This LCD screen works well without any problem.
Why doesn't "hoofhearted" like them? They might be competitor with them.

To get a discount, just tell the sales Rep you're going to go to Best Buy to get the 6860 model since your budget can't exceed $1800, they'll probably knock it down to that for you.

I don't like them because they tried to rip me off.

Why did you (chenkt) search out all my posts and accuse me of being a competitor? Come to think of it, your sentence structure seems reminiscent of the phone and email conversations I had with someone from LCDSuper (broken English)

Anyway, they did not sell me the Samsung part I ordered, but switched it out with another brand without first asking if this is what I wanted.
