Hey guys, just bought a really cheap upgrade for the 6860fx from ebay, a T9300. The processor I got though had a scratch on the top (aka was cutting through several connections). I tried it out anyways, but black screen. Put the old T5550, worked fine, tried again, still black screen. So am I missing something or is the processor, as I suspected, DOA? Already contacted the seller asking for a replacement though.

On a side note, there are two things under that heat sink. There's the processor, but I have no idea what the other chip is. Its not the GPU because that's under another heatsink and not easily accessible. It has some type of ceramic paste I think. Should I replace that paste with AS5 as well? Or should I just leave it as is?

If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, looks like a duck, it must be a duck.

The other item is the mobo chipset, you may reapply the TIM pad (if you find it) or thermal paste, just be aware that the TIM pad covers the extended gap between the heat sink and the chip. If you plan to replace it with paste then apply a generous amount but make sure not to get it all over the board
