Hey guys I just bought the P7803 in canada today its just like the rest of the FX series it just features a 7350 and a 500gb HD.
I've sliptreamed the f6 drivers from the other topic into my windows xp sp3 cd and I get the BSOD after "starting windows setup" I've tried switching from SATA to IDE and I still get that error. If anyone has any information for me that would be great.
I was told that you can install XP if you just put IDE in your bios and I still get the BSOD.

I think the answer should be : Why do I need XP?

That is not an answer in any way, shape, or form.
Maybe someone can comment if the 7803 needs another driver for XP.
I had to slipstream not only the SATA drivers but also the IDE Controller driver into an XP SP2+ installation for my Gateway GM5478's. They would get a BSOD no matter what if the IDE Controller drivers weren't slipstreamed.
IDE mode should work even without the SATA drivers slipstreamed, which is why it seems it is requiring another driver also..
However I have no experience with the 7803 or know much about the hardware so someone else is gonna have to chime in with more help.. -

I don't see ANY information for a Gateway "P7803" anywhere. Not on gateway's site, nowhere on google except for this thread.. where did you buy this "P7803" from in Canada??

I bought it from canada computers.

Actually I got it to work, i have no idea why it worked this time. The first time I created the disc on vista with the slipstream, then I made one when I got home on my xp desktop and those worked.
Anyways Ive noticed how weak this P7350 (2.0Ghz) CPU is right now, so I was thinking to return it take the 150$ return fee and buy the P7807uFX.
Since this one has, P8700 2.53Ghz and a 320gb 7200RPM hard drive. I just checked newegg.com and its unsale now -150$ and free shipping. So sadly I have to wait a week to get it but I mean its basically a free upgrade.
What do you guys think? -

That should be the same board.
You can always swap out the processor.
Just add up the cost of a processor that you want + a hdd or ssd that you want. Decide if you would sell the original parts or keep them in case you need to honor the warranty.
Compare that to the cost/trouble of returning the laptop you just bought and buying the 7807.
The CPUs you can put in these laptops can go up to 3.06GHz, it may simply be easier to upgrade the P7803 you just bought since it is the same platform.
If a 2.0GHz Core2Duo is slow to you then maybe you'll be better off upgrading to a processor that operates at a speed higher than 2.53GHz.
