That looks like a nice version with two 320gb hard drives. That's not US Dollars though, right? $2,888 is a LOT for that laptop.

This is basically the same laptop. Only difference is the hard drives and the 7804G-FX has 1 gig of video ram. It's debatable whether that helps or not.

Basically all info you probably want on durability, general speed, features, should all be found in that review. It's almost exactly the same.

    Hope that helps.

Looks like Singapore bucks. If that's the case, then figure ~1875 USD at today's rate.

yes that's not usd. 1884 USD.

By the way, I was wondering between Gateway's P7804G FX and Dell's XPS M1730, which would be better?

thank you for the info, Citizen86.

M1730 beats the living daylights out of 7804 build, performance, and weight wise. The only advantage the 7804 has is the newer line of CPUs, but the SLI cards, aside from 8700M GT SLI, eat the 7804 alive.

Isn't it a better buy to look into Sager for notebooks over $1500?

I see. No i do not really know bout Sager notebooks since it isn't particularly well-known in my area. What bout sager notebooks that make them so great?

To dtwn, seriously? even weight wise? I will be bringing the laptop around so i am rather conscious regarding that. Could you tell me more bout M1730? Thanks

For Sager in SG, google PC dreams or SG Cube hubs. They're more expensive though.

7804 is around 4.2kg. The M1730 is about 5kg. Both have large power bricks.

When I said beats the 7804, I didn't mean it was lighter. ;)

Do you actually recommend that i get the M1730?

So anyway, you live in SG?

I think it depends on your use. If portability is your main issue, check out the 7804 in person. If GPU performance, albeit at reduced CPU performance and greater price, is important, than the 1730's a better choice.

As for your other question, I'm currently at my other location.

Reduced CPU performance? Could you tell me more about that?

I actually do not really mind at all if the M1730 is really much better than the 7804.

If by any chance i tell you, i can get the M1730 cheaper compared to the 7804, i really should grab it right?

Depends on the configuration of the M1730.

The M1730 uses older processors compared to the 7804, which makes it slightly slower CPU wise.

    However, Dell's warranty >>>>>> Gateway's.

Checked my P7804G with everest, the hard disks are indeed 7200.3 drives! woho!!!

The gateway webstie indicates they are 5400 rpm drives...

Anyway, in RAID0, the HDtune average access rate is 120MB/S, not bad really!
