This is driving me crazy. All of a sudden, my built in mic stopped working on my 7805, it was like I did have one. I get to looking and it say I have a "Digital Output Device (SPDIF)" rather than Conexant High Definition Smart Audio 221. For recording device it says I have a microsoft High Definition Audio Device, which is not plugged in.

In Device Manager, I uninstall the High Definition Audio Device. The only other item listed is the NVIDIA High Definition Audio, which I left alone. I rebooted and it finds the Conexant High Definition Smart Audio 221, reinstalls it and everything is ok. I think problem is fixed, everything works as normal for a day, then it happens again.

On booting, I notice it is installing hardware and low in behold it installs the microsoft High Definition Audio Device, once again my built in mic disappears. Doing the same process does reinstall the Conexant High Definition Smart Audio 221, but it only last for a few boots, and it reinstalls the microsoft High Definition Audio Device.

Does anyone have any ideas what is going on and how to stop it. I know the built in mic is not the best, but I use it all the time.

Searching, I can't find anything that matches my problem.

    Thanks
