Yep, still haven't changed anything in the FX line. Still the same as the original (P-6831FX)

It is actually not exactly the same. The heatsink is different, The ram slot is different and there are only 2 antennas now. Ok I am being a smart a$$.

I can't say for certain, as I don't have a chip, but the plate over the cpu looks to be enough to cover a Quad Core. Not sure the solution is enough to cool a 45w TPD. Nice to see though the extra slot for expansion besides the wireless card and that the cover for the extra drive is included.

Since the wireless card is 2 wire it then is a 1T2R............

you might want to black out your vista serial number...wouldnt take much for someone to enhance the photo and BAM! steal your vista license code.

Half the fun is trying. ;)

I've been looking around for quad-core notebook CPUs, but I can't seem to locate one (but I've found a few T9800 CPU's). Anyone have a good source for them?

    (edit)Here's one that I found:

    http://www.pugetsystems.com/store/item.php?cat=CPU&id=5641&com=d41d8cd9

Anyone else know of any other sources? (/edit)

The only half height mini pci-e cards I've search/found are Dell's Intel or it's own Wifi Cards, 5100 or 5300 or those 1510's.

hadn't noticed that. so 80 for a new 1510 wireless card for the 1/2 height and then the memory card, yuck.............

There also is the 5100 from Dell, it is also 1/2 height with 1T2R (2 antenna) as we have but clains Blue Tooth support. that is 60 so a bit better. A bit pricy for adding BT support but again it frees the full height mini pci-e

You can get a 2GB robson module in half mini, a bluetooth/wireless USB, and a OTA digital tv reciever that I've seen, you can always get the 5100 half height and ditch the full and put whatever full height card you want in the other slot too.

The second option was my thought as the 5100 has the blue tooth.......

There has been over 12 versions so far, counting Gateway direct (back in the day), best buy, and online stores.

There are very few 17xFX users on this forum and you are one of those guys flynnaz. That is why when John said all three, I jumped on the assumption about 6831 -- 6860 -- 7811 and now 7805.

By the way before the FX line, I was using a NX850 and before that I had a M680. They both were awesome machines. M680 ahd the 6800 go and NX 850 had 7800gs. And yes both had the FN key on the left end of the keyboard. So, to all those people who says they should change it, Gateway has been doing it for years and people has been asking the same questions. It didn't change.

    I Have a p7805u FX. I switched to XP 32 SP3
Got almost everything working but the wireless.
    The wireless device shows as
    Intel(r) WiFi Link 5100 AGN
No driver problems shown. Says working properly. But it wont get a signal.
The switch is on & tried to turn it on with the F2 and through advanced properties.
I'm not 100% sure but I don't think it was working under vista either.

If I install a New Intel 3945 ABG Mini PCI-E Wireless/WiFi/WLAN Card will that fix my problem and will this card work with this laptop running XP 32 bit????

ALSO... What DC Power Adapter Model does this take?
