Anybody know the model # of the GPU fan on a Gateway P7811-FX? I'd hate to open my laptop up in order to find that out and then have to leave it open for days while I wait for the fan to be shipped...

umm... how about getting a revision 2 p-79 heatsink/fan assembly... unless your only partially opening your laptop...

the rev 2 has integrated fan/heatsink instead of separate pieces, and the heat pipe is 2x thicker, and has an extension to cool 2 more pwm modules!

if interested, ill link you to where I bought mine... $30 it was... but worth it every time if you where to ask me...

Any other links to these? I don't have a fleabay account any more, and will not create one again. Thanks in advance TANWare or anyone that has a link. :D

EDIT: Okay, for those of us that do not or will not have a fleabay account, the seller, Adeal.com, also sells these from their web site. Here is a link to the heatsink/fan. :)

At the time of this posting they show 5 in stock. They are $20 on their web site. :)

Okay, I am to assume one has to pretty much disassemble the complete system to install the new GPU heat sink?

finally getting ready to order one LOL. Not a problem tearing the entire system down, just asking.

Did it actually lower the gpu temperature?

Yep same here. It would be nice to lower the temps a bit on these puppies. I run a Cooler Master large laptop cooler under my system and it helps a tad but not enough as far as I am concerned. I would like to hear some members chime in with temp drops from these before pulling the trigger on one and spending the time disassembling the complete system.

Hell I need to tear mine down anyhow and replace the Thermal compound at the very least any how. :p

You will need new Thermal Paste, if not using a THICK paste, its highly recommended you also get shim's for the NorthBridge (if you havent already), as well as the VRAM modules!

A word of caution, you will notice a slight temp increase with the new HS/FAN, but it shouldn't be enough to cause worry.

The new HS/Fan has an extra bit that covers PWM modules that sit right next to the Power adapter plug-in... still, cooling more important system components like that just helps the overall life of the product even if the GPU gets a small temp increase...

I got more even, made a copper shim for this new piece and covered a 3rd PWM since it was grouped with the 2 that get covered anyway...
