I hook my laptop up to my Audio/Video receiver via HDMI out and I never get a digital signal. does the NVIDIA® GeForce® 9800M GTS graphics card not have surround sound capability when playing movies?
Ive tried playing movies the WMP, WinDVD, and PowerDVD and I can never get a digital signal from anything that I play.

Have you set your playback devices to be HDMI?

Yeah thats what i ment. Sometimes it doesnt auto default to HDMI. Yours seems to be set right.
So you're getting no sound at all or just not 5.1? -

hrm... I was under the impression that the 78xx series has an HDMI 1.3 system and could export 5.1 audio stream.
Have you tried looking for newer drivers for your HDMI? Not sure an update would help, but gateway has a few different drivers for the HDMI ont he 68xx and 78xx series. Maybe one of the others will give you the 5.1 out you're looking for. -

That was the problem. When I installed the 9c.10 bios the microphone jacks and the HDMI audio stopped working correctly. I had to use the option "HAVE DISK" to force the driver to be installed from gateway driver downloads. after that, its working now. Thanks for the help Batman
