OK. So I think I did something stupid and now i get msg "BOOTMGR is missing" but all hope is not lost... (I hope)

So i downloaded the BIOS from iata's site unzipped it and ran the application. Things looked as they did when i originally flashed to .12 So I walked away for a little. Everthing was going fine.

I came back and saw it was already restarting, and the BIOS menu options came up. F2 for settings and F10 for boot menu. I thought OOOooo. Let me just hit F2 to see it say my shiney new BIOS version .17

WRONG I then get the msg "BOOTMGR is missing" "Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart" OH CRAP!

Restarted it a few times hoping something would magically right itself, but nothing. So I scrambled around and looked for my Vista DVD, found it and popped it in.

It worked! The Vista DVD boots up and it can see the Vista install on my SSD!

Now I need to know if i should just reformat my old Vista install on the SSD and do a fresh, or can some one give me detailed instructions on how to make a DOS bootable USB stick to run the flasher again and see if it can be fixed that way.

Now I'm starting thinking I probably should have just let it roll during that initial restart... haha DOH!

If anyone could help, I would greatly appreciate it!

    Thanks in advance!!!

This doesn't sound like a problem with the BIOS or hardware issue after the BIOS upgrade. The "BOOTMGR is missing" error seems like the OS missing. Perhaps the BIOS is looking for the OS at the wrong location, after the upgrade. You didn't do anything wrong, it would have gave you the error anyways hehe. In the BIOS settings, make sure the boot order goes from CD/DVD rom first, then the hard drive with your OS on there, etc.

Here's one way to fix it: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/wind...ing-error-while-trying-to-boot-windows-vista/

Ok but when I hit F2 the boot mgr missing comes up and when I hit F10 I get:
    1 IDE cd:...
    2 IDE HDD:...
    7 IDE LAN:...
My SSD with the install doesn't show up...

Oh nice! F2 is wokring now and it says BIOS 9c.17.00, and when I went to the boot menu, it had my samsung slc in the "excluded from boot order" section and added it moves it up the list and I'm back up and running!!! I don't know maybe before I wasn't hitting F2 in time. Jesus! What a relief haha! nice! TY! I figured things would be ok since vista DVD worked :)

im sure its just the boot priority that has been reset. i get this all the time when my desktop comp rearranges the boot priority under the bios options. just boot into the bios settings and make the ssd the first hdd to be initialized and it should boot fine. if something went wrong with bios flash the you would either get a comp that doesnt turn on or turns on to a blank black screen.

the reason it boots with the disk is because the files that your comp cant find are loaded from the disk which are the boot files, usually found on the root of the originally os installed drive.

(i got a feelin somethin is wrong in my explanation so if i am please correct me if im not wrong call me paranoid lol)

EDIT: ah dang you figured it out as i typed this whole mess up lol but yeah you just were not hitting it in time (they only give you like a split second it seems lol)

Boot sequence reset excludes any extra HD and SSD.

LOL, atleast it wasn't as bad as the flash I did last week end, version 14 of the bios for my iX38 is missing the last 5% from all three uploads (US, Euro and Chinese servers). I didn't realize this because the first time I flashed it I went to eat something and didn't notice the error. When I went to reset my OC every time I rebooted the CPU fan would turn off but the computer would start normal (makes me glad I have a window on the side of my case). I reflashed it and noticed the error before it rebooted downloaded it from the other servers with same resolute. Flashed it to the version before (13) and set up my OC again only to have Win7 start to BSOD every time it revved the CPU, luckily that was me being an idiot forgot to set the voltage when I did the OC for the 6th or 7th time that day. Guess I can count my blessings I didn't brick it. Point is flashing is a tricky and funny business.

On a related note following on from RangerXML's post, I am contemplating flashing my G.Skill Falcon SSD with OCZ Vertex's new ("garbage collection/disposal") firmware.

My G.Skill will essentially turn into a OCZ Vertex meaning i can take advantage of OCZ's superior support but at the same time, I'll void the warranty and also run the risk of bricking my SSD in case something goes wrong with the cross-flash.

Yeah let us know how that turns out! I'm considering getting 2 indilinx drives and if the manufacture doesn't release good firmware it would be nice to know I can steal vertex's.
