    Hi,
I am running the 9c.17.00 bios. I can tell you when doing an upgrade to the exisiting Win7 install the system will not shut down. There is an error with a thread causing a restart not a shutdown. I am having also where with the new video driver, possibly others as well, where running Dirt2 the system will not return to the desktop. It forced me to log off and back in to get the desktop back.

I should forewarn that with open apps, as they are not closed by default, it uses up available ram quickly. With 8GB it is not an issue but I easily was at 3GB used with just a few apps open so those with only 4GB stock beware.

I have other issues with Win8 as well but these are more non specific to these systems.

Edit; I have tried this two times for a couple of hours each time but it seems I am running into just more and more issues so I gave up and back to Win7....................

Well I sure hope your experiences with win8 are unique to your setup and maybe the official release of win8 will fix those issues. If not and that happens to all of us that have P78xx-P79xx computers then win 8 is a no go.

Hope so too. I'm reading W8 will be M$ last great hope to smack down on the tablet influx and loss of market share.

Not sure I will leave W7 for anything. I am VERY pleased with it. But, I know nothing about W8. Not surprised there are issues with it though. W7 was solid back in the RC days.

I really wanted to like it but with all the issues with the system there is no way. I would deal with software issues and hope for more functionality but with the shutdown abd 3D issues it was a done deal for me.

Win7 has been wonderful to the P79xx. I have about all the function I need. There are some nice apps over with Win8 but not enough to make up for its shortcomings let alone the system issues.

This thread though is not to discuss Win8 in general but system problems with such as unfortunately M$ does not consider this as a beta and they are not taking direct hardware issues. To me this is no better shape than a beta, just too many problems IMHO...................

Ok, I installed as a dual boot and this solved the shutdown issue. I had to reinstall 02Micro and the new nvidia drivers but at least it is all stable now. It has no sleep or hybrnate yet...........
