    Hello

I got this laptop from America early 2010 and it has been great. I noticed immediately that the power lead was getting trapped at odd angles and figured that it would be the first thing to cause a problem. A little over a year has passed and the power has just recently stopped working completely.

I took the laptop apart to see if the jack looked to be damaged but couldn't spot any problems with it. I'm just wondering if anyone has any advice on what I should do? I'm thinking of buying a new power cable for it but not sure where the best place to get a replacement in the UK would be as hopefully the problem is the lead itself. Looking around it seems they are compatible with certain acer models?

edit: I mean the charging stopped and the battery has now ran out, it didn't suddenly shut down or anything like that

The light on the brick comes on when plugged in, the bit I think might be dodgy is 'past' the brick if that makes sense

if th light on the power brick is on when both in the wall and plugged into the laptop you may need a new power board. To be sue put a multimeter on the end of the power brick just to be sure power is really making it to the plug.

There's always eBay, but it's a bit of a crap shoot. If you need the actual DC jack you should be able to find one from an industrial supply/electronics shop. We have MSC here in the states, not sure about UK. Other than that, you could try something like taobao.com. Only problem is, it's in Chinese because, well, it's in China. It's a lengthy process to get things from taobao, but it can be done if necessary. I ordered a processor off of there I couldn't find in the US successfully, though it took 1.5 months to get it.

I'm so unmotivated to do this...is there anywhere in UK that would do it for me that's not a total rip off?

good deal, then did you follow my advice previously and put the multimeter at the end of the power jack? As I mentioned this needs checking first.
