Is there anyway to upgrade the KB to a backlit? Other than the bad screen res, and the lack of a backlit KB, I love the machine. I know the LCD can be replaced, I am just hopeing the KB can as well.

Don't see how this is possible. You'll not only need the keyboard to be an exact replacement, but you'll also need an empty power plug on the motherboard to provide for the back-lighting itself.

i remember thinking about this awhile ago and i did find a keyboard that had almost the same shape and key layout. I cant remember what laptop it was from though. i didnt try buying it because at the time i didnt have the money for it. powering the lighting wont be that hard even without a port (just a little modding and voila).

Exactly. The keyboard screws etc must be in the identical location as well. If there isnt one for the model already there isnt a way to do it.

About the only way i've found to that will even remotely back light the keyboard is the LED method.

You basically run a few LED's off one of the USB powers and you can get "almost" the same effect. But its not really the same and its alot of work for very minimal effect.

If you had alot of time and talent you could take a dremel (or ideally a laser cutter) and actually very carefully carve out the keys so the LED light would bleed through and it would give the same effect... but i'm not sure if its worth it because even a minor screw up and the key will no longer work (as the attachments are generally right under the letters)

Definatily do not have the time or talent for that lol. I appriciate all the feedback. I was hoping there was a previous model FX KB that would just kinda slide in and that would be the end of it. Still a nice machine, and it will hold me over till I pick up the Envy 17.
