Silly question I imagine as the case has PCMCIA printed on it, but just hoping this is really an Express Card slot and labeled incorrectly! Can't find any specs that include ports etc. so if anyone knows for sure I would appreciate it...

its a type II PC card slot(PCMCIA)

    Your lappy has 4xusb 2.0, 1 PCMCIA, 1 mic,1 headphone, 1 vga, 1 s-video out, and firewire.

Yep, about what I figured. Ah well, too late now, but really annoying a "top of the line" laptop doesn't have the new standard, esp. as its been out for a while. Thanks for the confirmation however.

Personally I think they did you a favor by not giving you an Express card. Good luck trying to find a broadband cell phone card in Express card format. The main reason I went with the two Gateway's I bought was because they did support the old PCMCIA cards. You can find almost anything you want in that format.
