Alright, so I didn't take pictures, but yes, I found it... bad news is I'm not finding much info on it actually being overclockable.
Didn't take any pictures, but if anybody wants to open their computer up, you'll find it around the opposite side of the touch pad, kind of under the direction keys on the keyboard. Looking at vwracer69's picture, you can actually clearly see "X2 = 14,31818Mhz", it's to the right of the Lite-On... white... thing. Funny thing was that crystal part that everybody says to look for kind of looked like it was covered by a black chip... But I found the ICS.
Anyway's for anyone who is interested, here's the markings I found:
X2 = 14,31818 Mhz
Chip: 14,318. H,ELE,7K
ICS Chip: ICS 7349400
0742
9LPRS365BGLF
There you have it. I just did a little googling and can't find much on it, there was a thread from back in '07 here on this forum that I skimmed over... they never found much. Apparently there is a pin mod to take a CPU from 667mhz to 800mhz, but I haven't found much other than that.... but oh well. At least for P-6831FX owner's you can stop wondering. Looks like the only thing we can do is buy Xtreme chips now![]()
I'd love to hear if anyone figures out how to overclock this thing (obviously). But if you have one of the newer models, at least you know the area to check now. I got it all back together, originally had 2 extra screws, but found where they went... only damage I received was sticking larger screws than I should have in the two spots where the battery goes... so now my media center has two bumps on it, hahhahaa...... Oh well, brings the resale a little lower, but I'm not too bothered by it![]()
Have fun!

now we are getting somewhere.
-
By the way, here's the post that talked about the same PLL:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=174385
Apparently there was a version SetFSB in the works, but I assume nothing came of it.... looks like we're kind of out of luck. -

Yay PLL goodness. Heres to hoping i can run the x9000 and the rest of the system @800mHz now
-
I am all out of rep points, but in 24 hours I will rep this thread. Sweet.
Same PLL in the 6860, no? -
Safe to assume, that the same PLL can be used for my 6860fx?
-
They would be exactly the same for the 6831/6860 . Congrats on the find.
-
finally someone got it, i looked up and down the board like 8 times trying to find it.
i knew i would miss it.
+1 rep -
Not sure about the 6860, but I would assume so. Probably different for the 7811 though, being a different platform, but you never know.
-
Whats the next step now, fellas?
-
Since our PLL is not readily available in any fsb overclocking programs yet.... We wait and hope its actually overclockable in the future, lol. Johnkss was talking about one of the programmers for setfsb on the boards here, hopefully he can help us out. But other than that there isn't much we can do.
-
Submit that PLL to all available people that put together the software and wait. I have a good feeling someone will bite on programming that PLL to work, at least Im hopeful they will. -
still waiting on a reply back from him....hopefully he will be able to do something with this.....that's a big "hopefully*!
-
I was playing with SetFSB, since it has a hex editor built in... but you can't really just type out the PLL and try from there I see... it seems pretty complicated
Has anyone used CoolCPU before? http://www.cpu-cool.de/ You have to pay for it, but maybe he could help with getting this overclocking working? -
-
Wow. FINALLY. There were about 13 million people(successfully) take their laptops apart, but none ever got the PLL, which funnily enough, was the main reason we wanted to get inside the machine in the first place. I was wondering if this was ever gonna happen. +reps
-
It's funny too that I was able to see the 14.3 mhz on other peoples screenshots after I found mineNow let's hope someone can actually program our PLL to be overclockable....
-
hi guys,
I have been speaking to a dev at setFSB and sent him a load of diagnosis information and after several emails back and forth sending ever more information he finally came back with this bad news:
"Hmm..., This is Trusted mode enabled (no over-clocking allowed). (Read only)
I can not support it. Please resign oneself it."
Looks like we are out of luck -
dan.g now that is bad news....
-
Wow!
I really thought it would be possible, guess not. -
Oh dammn.. That sucks! Thanks to everyone who tried to make it happen though
-
Does this mean its 100% not possible, or can the "trusted mode" somehow be disabled?
-
If you google the PLL you'll find that there are threads from a year ago in several languages saying the same thing. Overclocking on this pll is not possible.

Well i'm slightly disappointed now, but oh well I guess you cant always have everything on a $1250.00 laptop.
So no 8800GTX and no 800mHz FSB for us so far.
Johnksss unless you can somehow figure out how to go further than 3.0gHz we're offically batting 0.000 in this game
I think i'm gonna splurge for a clevo or flextronics next time, just so i have a bit more room to "play" even if its just to kill bordom. Upgrading CPU's and RAM is fun, but sometimes you just want to go further. -
Excatly Kamin.. Killing time with OCing is always fun
still I wonder, how many of us actually NEED the OC?
I doubt any of us do -
Try contacting IDT to get the datasheet for the PLL. Say that you are an electrical engineering student, and would like to know how the specific PLL works. They should gladly provide you the datasheet. (I did the same for the ICS954310)
Then mail it to all the overclockers (CPUCool, Clockgen, SetFSB, etc).
I don't really trust SetFSB. When I provided him the datasheet for my notebook's PLL, he said that it has no connection with the FSB, and the next week I found CPUCool already provided support for the PLL (ICS954310).
If Software doesn't work, you can get the chip hard-wired from an electrical tech guy. I got that done which bumped the FSB up by 33MHz, as CPUCool is not 64-Bit. But it needs to be done by some geek/techy after going through the datasheet. K-Tron can help as well. -

Though i really do need the CPU OC. In my spare time i calculate a planets evolution (using fuzzy math because its just for a game i run) So calculating population shifts and political turmoil takes its toll on a CPU and i would love to shave even more time off of this operation. The 3.0gHz of the x9000 helped out ALOT i went from a full day lost doing this to about 10 hours...if i could get it down to 6 or 8 hours that would make me estatic. -
Well, too bad about the PLL. But after doing some searching I figured that was going to be the report back anyways.
@Andy: I doubt anyone hear is desperate enough to overclock to get anything physically modified, especially for such a little return. Good info though.
So you're saying though, that if the datasheet is obtained then it might be possible for this "trusted mode" to be "untrusted"??
@Kamin: I'm just curious... when you say you aren't at 800mhz... do you mean the RAM?? Because your CPU is one of the Penryn's, right? X9000? It should automatically run at 800 FSB. Mine is a T9300 and it does 800 FSB. in CPU-Z is says near the bottom left side Rated FSB: 799.01 Mhz. -
I don't know what Trusted Mode is. The datasheet for my PLL also states something about Trusted Mode Enable (TME) Latched Input. I don't know what it is. But it is best to get the datasheet and provide it to as many software developers out there.
And if you'll overclock the FSB by 33MHz, FSB will be at 933MHz and RAM at 800MHz. 233MHz is the best OC for the SR platform. 266MHz is overkill, but works on most system with a Penryn, DDR2-800 and Geforce 8M/9M series. -
Right, I have no idea either....... but hopefully one of the overclocking programmers knows
-

Aren't these basically the same processors as the desktop versions? If so... the FSB is quad-pumped, something like that, so in order to have a 1:1 ratio, the ram would actually have to be downclocked to DDR2-200 to match the 800 Mhz FSB!
Only reason I remember that is because for the 1:1 ratio of the first Core2Duo's, which had a 1066 FSB, you only needed DDR2-533 to match it. DDR2-667 for 1333, and DDR2-800 for 1600. So right now... the ram is running plenty fast for our CPU's -
Kamin_Majere =][= Ordo Hereticus
I guess i still have much to learn... now i'm all confused'ed -
heheh sorry. I tend to do that
-
Wow I would love to oc. The penryn cpus run as cold as ice.
edit: Oh ya and I've been running on 3d clocks for the past 5 days after I forgot to undo the edit I made to the registry :face palm:. -
I asked Wolfram, the guy who runs the CPUCool website and overclocking program about our PLL number. He said I would have to find the data sheet for it, as they won't deal with him much anymore since they know him as a "great asker and small buyer", lol... as all of us of course are
I guess we'll have to email IDT about it and ask if we can get their data sheet on it to make any further progress... I think andy already mentioned this, heh... -
how much does it cost?
-
What, the data sheet? He told me that if someone wants to tell them they're a student they would probably give it to them, but they just know his email now and he's not a student or a potential buyer
-
could you please give me the latest forceware drivers for Gateway P-6831FX please thx i know major off topic
)
-
Kamin_Majere =][= Ordo Hereticus
You know us poor computer engineering college students need all the datasheets we can get for referance -
http://www.idt.com/?genID=9LPRS365
I believe there is an email there that you can ask for it. Thanks Kamin!
-
........... -
So I guess you never heard back from IDT, Kamin?
-
Darn yoo Citizen!
For a second there I thought someone had experienced an epiphany, and had figured out a way for us to OC!
So, Kamin... Any good news? -
Kamin_Majere =][= Ordo Hereticus
Thanks for reminding me.
As of yet my first email hasnt received a response. So i have sent another one this morning. Maybe with better luck. If nothing else i might be able to call them once i get back home. -
Thanks for the update Kamin. Hopefully you can get it from them, then we'll have a fighting chance of overclocking
-
It would be fun to overclock this laptop
I remember when people would freak out when I would even suggest that you can overclock a laptop.
-
Kamin_Majere =][= Ordo Hereticus
Yeah hopefully this request will yeild some fruit.
I know we're not going to get a ton of extra speed form a PLL overclock, but ever bit helps
If nothing else everyone else can email them too. Its a pretty easy process and its actually pretty well set up to accept all the info you need to give them for a proper response.... getting the response however is taking a bit longer than i like. -
Did anyone get an answer?
PLL for P-6831FX?? Good news and bad news....
