Packard Bell iPower GX
It's the same machine but with a mobile quad Q9100 and 9800M GTS with 1GB.
Does this mean we can put that Quad in our machine?
-
I dont see any evidence that this is a rebranded 7811.
-
well if its using the same motherboard theres a chance we may be able to put quads in our 7811s . thats definitely a P series gateway rebranded . they may have just purchased the casings from arima or whoever makes ours and put new guts in it but from the sound of it it seems very similar.

Well, call it what you want, but it's the same chassis, the same battery, same ports, same multi-media touch keys, same touchpad.
The only difference is they changed the orange trim around the keyboard with black and added a little white splash to the piano black color instead of the checkered pattern mine has - and they added a few extras such as the fingerprint reader and blu-ray option.
My previous question is still stands. -
well 1499 works out at around $2100
Think I'll go ahead and get the 7811 thanks.
Would like to know the answer to that question though! -
Acer is turning Gateway and Packard into performance brands? Interesting.
I like what they have done with Gateway so far. -
WOW! That sux! However the QX9300 quad will work with our 7811... it's just not out yet!
The only thing good about this is that our case won't be outdated too fast! -

wow... good job on the rebrand.
It is horrible looking though, all glossy black then BAM the throw a bunch of white/silver paint on the case to make it trendy.
The FX line isnt the best looking notebooks, but its muted enough that you can still be taken seriously with it instead of like a 15year old (not downing 15 years olds, its just we were all looked at diffrently back then) -
Very nice find.. I wouldn't mind the quad core one bit. And the 1GB GPU, I could do without. My experience is they tend to be a bit slower than the 512MB of the same card. But, ya never know..I could be wrong! And I'll keep this casing, just gimme the guts of the other.
I am tempted to pick up the quad just to see if it works.. the qx9300 I believe is the extreme mobile coming soon..

Yeah the QX9300 is the extreme mobile quad (though it has ALOT lower clocks then the x9100 base)
I'm just waiting for next year when more and more applications will be multithreaded so we can make use of 4 and 8 core CPU's. Thats going to be nice!
But to all the 7811 owners, i though the mobile quads were going to use the same socket as the dual core Centrino 2 chips? So i dont see any reason you couldnt just do a swap out nice and easy...though the heatsink and such might need a redesign due to the double dual cores that make up intels quad core systems -
"Using the same shell" and "rebranding" are completely different animals.
I'd still like to have that quad-core, though. -
I think it looks cool. No point buying a beige Ferrari is there?
If the performance backs up the looks, why not? -

This notebook is more like a corvette, and you just dont put a tuner paint scheme on a corvette.
But it all comes down to personal taste i guess... and personally i think its horrible where as you think its cool. -
PACKARD BELL????? Holy cow I haven't even seen one of those in.. 10 years.
I'm assuming, of course, that the only thing the "new" Packard Bell shares with the "old" Packard Bell is the name.
Back in the 1990's PB made cheap crummy PC's that they sold in Walmart and other big box discount stores. Techs hated them. -
Maybe Packard Bell will offer the internal bluetooth module.
Here's hoping someone offers it.
Looks like bluetooth will be optional.
Here is a link to the press release.

dang this is crazy.... well i like the look of it... the abstract design at the back gives me a lot of ideas of how to make a graffiti vinyl on the back panel of my incoming p-7811fx... geez im so excited...
another note... the name is more catchy... can anyone verify if the parts used for this laptop are the same with the 7811 because i would like to know if this laptop is more sturdy... thanks -
just to reiterate what someone said, it's going to be aroudn $2100 US, and a lot harder to get here in the US I think. With that money, you'd be better off with a sager.
-
-
I agree that importing this will be a pain... -
So both CPU'S will work with 7811?
-
if im going to spend 851 on a cpu i may as well bite the bullet and spend the extra 200 and go for the gusto.

I had a Sager np5793 and i think my gateway is better! Sager is just a rebranded clevo. If they are still using those dim LVD panels good luck!
