I could see Gateway *maybe* adding support for #1, but you'd have a better chance of hitting the lottery before any of it happens really, no matter how many people request it.

It's kinda the same issue that people with Lenovo T61's have (with the SATA II being locked at SATA I speeds). To Gateway, the notebook is functioning 100% as intended. It's very rare that a company will release a notebook bios that adds features; it's more common that they'll release a bios so that it fixes bugs. They're not going to waste the time and resources (money) just so nibitor will work for the select few that want to use it. :(

This is the difference between buying an enthusiast level product and a consumer/business targeted product. When you buy an enthusiast product (for example, you piece together your own computer using an Asus/MSI/Gigabyte/etc motherboard), they're catering to you so they give you all the bells and whistles they can. They figure that if you know how to build a computer, then you know what you're doing with everything else too.

When you buy a pre-built machine from a store like Best Buy, 99% of the time the manufacturer won't give you those options because they want to guarantee system stability, and make sure that you don't break it while it's under warranty.

With #2, Gateway will never do it since it would increase the likelyhood of receiving warranty requests to fix burned out boards. This also impacts #1 too since, as far as I'm aware, Gateway has never released a FX notebook with an extreme processor. Since technically the notebook wasn't designed to deal with the added heat output of an unlocked CPU that's being pushed, they'd be hesitant to add support for it in a BIOS update. Ideally they'd want to release a notebook that has a beefed up heat sink and fan.

By the way, #4 (quad core) is already supported... kinda. The problem isn't a bios limitation, it's a motherboard limitation. AFAIK, the only motherboard that supports quad core processors is the one in the 7808u. In the other boards for other 78xx series models, the required signal traces are simply just not there.
