    Hi all,
I just bought a Momentus 7200.4 from Dell and am trying to install in on a Gateway 7811. I plug the drive into the second bay and when i boot up the computer it just hangs there. I cannot get into bios or anything. When i Hit F2 it just says 'entering bios' and sits there.

i tried booting just on hard drive, both, and nothing. my old 200gb hard drive works with no problem, with the jumper in and out.

any ideas? do i need to update the bios or something? is the hard drive dead?

    thank you!

    Edit,

Do i need to have a jumper in the 7200.4 or not? Does it matter? Has anyone who installed this hd comment whether they used a jumped on the Gateway 7811?

    thx

Take the drive out and make sure its seated correctly and its snug.

Check to make sure drive is good.

Are you referring to the fact that many of the hard drivers are dead? i am confused, maybe cause im dumb, lol, but yea.. is it the hard drive dead? do i need a jumper to make it 1.5gb?

is that normal for the gateway 7811. i use the old 200gb 7200.2 without the jumper.

    hi all again,

i tried getting this drive to work again today. again same problem, just hangs there, wont let me get into bios.

when i turn the computer on i can hear the hard drive making a quiet beep noise, like ding, very quietly, over and over again.

Most likely the drive is not getting the power or something else to initialize. The bios is seeing the controler but without initialization it never even gets to bios..............
