Hello, I am in need of help with my DVD Combo drive for my Gateway T-6311 notebook. It reads CD's and CD-R discs but it has suddenly stopped reading or recognizing DVD's and DVD-R's. It would previously do this but after ejecting the disc a couple of times it usually fixed the problem. I have tried to update the driver but Windows Vista says i have the most current driver, and i have just for luck did a fresh install of the hard drive. My laptop is no longer under warranty so, I am wondering if anyone has had this problem before. I appreciate any advice any one has. Thanks!

Cheap answer; replace with external, LG, DVD burner. About $60 on sale, way fast, but not a light weight travel option.

Internal drive is supposed to kick into high power mode to burn DVD. Have you tried deleting drive in Hardware manager, then reboot?

Google your internal drive to get an idea on replacement cost if all else fails.

Oh I haven't thought of that... I might try that and see what happens. Gateway wants $200 to get a new drive plus shipping. Do you or anyone know if i need to get a new one, Can i upgrade to something like a blueray player that is internal? I see a few cheap internal burners on some sites, will those work or does it have to be OEM? Thanks again for your help.

A few guys have installed BD drives, change the bezel and fork out the bucks.

Search the forums for the model numbers and installation/software upgrades.
