I just traded my old laptop in for a new one because I was having issues, when I got the new one they swapped the hard drive out so I could still have all my data. The old laptop was artifacting (showing green lines across the screen) but only sometimes but mostly after I overclock and get a bsod and after I reboot the artifacts show for a second.
Anyway, I traded it in, same hdd. It was the 1920x1200 lg screen!!! BUT right when I boot up I get a bsod, which after sending the error info to microsoft it said it was the nvidia driver... Now after uninstalling the driver AND running driversweeper to clean it, I reinstalled the new drivers from nvidia. what do you know, after reboot I get a bsod, then started to get artifacts.
So I ran atitool artifact scanner thing for 40 minutes and it didn't find anything. Although my gpu temp was 69c. But as soon as I close it, and open the start menu it starts to show the lines...
do you guys think it's the driver? Could you recommend any drivers?
Also, My power box thing is making a "SSSSSSSS" noise, and the plug that goes into the laptop doesn't want to stay in AT ALL. Or so it seems...
Can ANYONE shed light on my situation? PLEASE!

Some people notice noise if they stress their system heavily and put thier ear close to it, but the power supply isn't really supposed to make any noise. Did you send the supply back with your laptop? Did they replace it?
-
My power supply does that as well after being left on for a long period of time.. hasn't hurt anything, but does get rather annoying if your sitting next to it.
As far as drivers go, I'm using DOX's 182.05.. they have been great for me.
I wouldn't of swapped hdd's out, I would of saved all your data and got a new HDD as well... that may be something to do with it.
Did you try formatting and re-installing everything?
I always love doing that. -
I managed to stop the ac adapter hissing but it wouldn't stay plugged in.
Anyway, I just traded back the laptop for another one at bestbuy, this is my 4th one! lol.
This one too has the 1920x1200 res screen. Has a hitachi hdd and SO FAR works ok... (it's been on not even an hour).
The one thing I am worried about is the GPU (graphics card)... It's making a little noise... And I don't think it's fan noise... And it's everyonce in a while, I guess when the gpu has some sort of load. Anyone else have that?
I'm just being overly paranoid since I've had nothing but trouble with the 7815u line and my 14 day take back thing will be up tomorrow!
I'm going to run benchmarks like crazy so I can see if it shows any sign of going out... -
I never heard of the GPU making a noise..? Is that even possible?
Your probably just over-paranoid, thats how I was when I got mine.. sometimes my hdd makes a tick noise, but it's fine.
Benchmarks like crazy isn't going to make a difference...
Just use it and don't worry about it... enjoy it! -
Way to paranoid! Just play a game with the volume on 100. lol. If you had a 1440 screen and then swapped HDD into the 1920 screen you'll def get BSOD. On your last lappy if you were getting BSOD after you OC that tells me your OC's are off. What were you running at, because surely you can fry your gpu with the wrong setup. As for the PSU during a nght of heavy gaming mine starts to hiss.

When I oc'd I got 9690. -
To much overclock will kill your gpu..
You really don't "Need" to even overclock these laptops.. -
