I got a refurbished Gateway laptop from TigerDirect. It stopped working since last night and I cannot start the computer. If I tried to let the computer launch normally, the "blue screen of death" appears for 1 sec and then the computer tried to reboot and goes through this cycle. If I tried the other option, which is something like trying to fix the problem, the window won't launch even if I wait for 1 hr. I also tried to go to the Advanced Boot Menu to try full system recovery but I could not find "Repair Your Computer" Menu there. Can someone please help me? What should I do? Is this a hard disk failure problem or will I be able to recover the system somehow? I have the OS CD (Windows Vista Home Ed) that I got at the time of purchase.
    Desperately waiting for some help.

Thats actually happened to me once when I installed xp and reverted back to vista. What I did was format the harddrive to clean it up and then reinstall vista. Thats what I would do personally but if you have important files I think you should use another option. Keep in mind the TD refurb gateways especially the 7811fx have a high failure rate. You only have 30 manufacturer warranty so I would just get a refund in full and maybe get something else.

If you want to do a clean install of Windows Vista Home Education then here's what your going to want to do:

Startup your laptop. Right after you press the power-on button, rapidly press the F10 key until you get to the Boot Menu. Now, you need to open up your CD Drive and put in the Vista Home Ed Disc. Now, press enter on the "IDE CD" option. This will boot your laptop from the Home Ed CD, and allow you to do a clean install.

Have you tried pressing F8 before windows loads to try launching in safe mode? If you can start in safe mode, transfer your files, then do a clean install or fix whatever the problem is (If you know).

The repair option is there, its just a bit hidden in some menus.
