For some reason, whenever I insert the new processor and turn on the computer, it wont even get to the gateway logo. This is what it says on the top of the new processor

    INTel H C '06
    5013A898 SLAYY

    FF00576T9300
    2.50/6M/800

Also, whenever I put in the old processor, it boots up fine.

Anybody have any idea whats going on?

could be a defective chip. will it let you access bios with the new chip in? or does it not even load that far into it, if thats the case probably would be better to send it back for a new one.

Check for broken pins. I am not sure if a BIOS update is necessary to support Penryns.

Where should I check for a bios update?

I hope its not a defective chip, I've gone through hell trying to deal with this kind of stuff on ebay.

first off, im thinking the t9300 might not be compatible, or rather fully compatible. correct me if im wrong. otherwise the chip either got screwed from static electricity, or was bad from the start. where did u get it from?

The T9300 works fine in the 6860. There are a couple peeps here running it.

OP, I'm hoping I'm wrong, but it sounds like a bad chip.

Nope, upgrading the bios didn't help it. I'm guessing it's probably a bad chip then. Do I just cut my losses and look for another chip? or is there any chance of getting a refund?

Yea, I'll probably go for a brand new one this time, but gotta wait till my next couple paychecks roll around.

talk to the seller, there should be some type of "this will work" warranty
found this in the link you posted:

    Item must be returned within:

    7 Days

Refund will be given as: Money Back

Return policy details: All Non DOA returns subject to 20% restock fee. Shipping and handling not refundable.

This does sound like a deffective chip. I put a t9300 in my P6860 and it took all of 10 minutes, with no issue's then or since (6 months ago). You can also go through Ebay to try and get your money back if the seller gives you a hard time about it. Check out how much insurance that he carries on his items. If he carries more than you paid then your golden, that is, if you paid with paypall. If you paid with a credit card go through the credit card company. The process with Ebay is a little involved, they make you jump through many hoops, but at least you can get your money back.

That or he's... y'know, tried to remove the thermal glue >_>

Anyway, as was mentioned, be sure to scan the chip wiuth utmost scrutiny for bent pins, I had to straighten one on Old chippy, but ... erm let's just say that was the least of his problems :p

Yep sounds like a bum chip, deffinatly a "get your money back" situation

If not file a grievance with Paypal and let them do the running for you

I thought i heard one time that the SLAYY chips were defective or had alot of problems. It might have just been a rumor i had heard on the boards though.

Looking at the Intel site, it appears the primary difference between the various T9300 versions is the VID voltage range.

    SLAQG: 1.062 - 1.150
    SLAYY: 1.050 - 1.137
    SLAZB: 1.000 - 1.250
    SLAPV: 1.000 - 1.250

Otherwise, I didn't see any differences. I didn't read the technical documents, so there may be other differences...

My previous post was from my recollection at the time of my purchase (in June/July). I don't remember where I found the information that made me choose the SLAYY. Both it and another version were available for about the same price.

and if that isn't one thing... i just found out that cpuz 143 and above show the wrong voltage apparently, but yet it doesn't match what is on the intel site either.....

Well, I talked to the person who sold me the chip and he agreed that it is probably a defective chip, and is giving me a full refund ^_^. So I'm a happy camper for today and will probably be searchin ebay for another chip next week.

Good news. I bought a chip off of ebay a few years back that never showed up but I got a refund after dispute through paypal. It's good to know that the seller is reputable so you don't have to deal with the same hassel.

No, I avoid purchasing anything $100 or more of someone with low rep.

Also, I would probably avoid buying a refurbished/used processor in the future. Not anything wrong with the sellers, but too many things can happen between buying the cpu and having it arrive. I like having a nice big Intel box around the lil cpu.

Ok, now that I got my refund for my T9300, I've been searchin around ebay and havent found many other T9300 to buy, but I did find this that catches my eye.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/Intel-Core-2-Extreme-Mobile-Processor-X9000-NEW-TOP_W0QQitemZ170265718562QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item170265718562&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

Just want to doublecheck here again before I press the purchase button, this x9000 is compatable with the 6860fx chipset right?

And I'm not overlooking anything else important I hope. ^_^

Well, it's been a while but I finally got my x9000 in the mail. Put some AS5 on it and installed it perfectly, and it works like a charm.

Everything is so much faster now that its installed. About 5-10 more fps in crysis.

Just thought I'd let everybody know that my troubles are over, and if anybody has any other suggestions now that my cpu is installed I'll still keep track of any replies here.
