In the review found in this site: http://www.laptopmag.com/review/laptops/gateway-p-7811-fx.aspx?page=2
They say about the 7811 playing Crysis: "When we set the system to optimal, the game defaulted to High settings and a resolution of 1024 x 768; we averaged 21 frames per second, and gameplay was more fluid."

But the problem I am having is that when I set the system to optimal, the game defaulted to not to High but to Low settings, the resolution to 800 x 600, and still the game runs sluggish like hell during the firefights. Any suggestion on how to solve this problem?

    use ccclvl3 or 4
its an app that optimizes crysis.
with this app i can run crysis on ccclvl4 (i recommend 3, i upgraded my cpu), aa2 and 1920x1200 and havnt noticed any slowdown.

    try ccclvl3, no AA, 1680x1050

have you got the latest nvidia drivers? and are you running it in direct x 9 or 10? cause directx 10 sucks! You'll get the exact same quality of graphics, but with much more frames with directx 9...the way to do this is either right click on the shortuct in the windows games menu, and select PlayDx9 or, just add "-dx9" to the end of your shortcut for it...

I used ccclvl 3 and it didn't do much. I downloaded the latest nvidia driver and started using Dx9 instead of Dx10, that did help but still lags. In Low settings, during the firefights, it runs at 4 to 8 fps.

Check your temps, get HW Moniter running in the background and do some crysis, sometimes when cards get too hot, they downclock, but i dont think your machine has these problems.
