I have tried installing itunes multiple times on my laptop and each time it says that it cannot access a directory file.

Has this happened to anyone else?
    Are there any solutions?

What do you need itunes for? ipod? music sharing? iphone?
You can open the installer and extract the installers for the parts that you need.
Also have you tried running the installer as admin? (right click on the installer, and choose "Run with Administrator")
I only pull out itunes and quicktime. I don't have an iphone, nor do I need the bonjour service, but I have to use it to sync with my ipod. (WMP is my prefered player.)

i went with a different ipod supported software, if i ever get my old laptop back i will look up the name of it, its tons better than itunes and doesnt murder the music on a different ipod as soon as you try to upload music. its a easy drag and drop program.

on a different note, rockbox is a different OS for ipods, its a decent os, plus it supports the original Doom game and has the option for a game boy color emulator
