It is an A1 chip which is $130 cheaper than QS which i would have to pay $18 on top of that for shipping.
Q9100 A1: $450 shipped
Q9100 QS: $589+ shipping
QX9300 QS: $749+ shipping
He's getting lower but i'm not paying that.
"For my dear Customer's specail price $575+18USD is lowest^^ ... actually QS of Q9100 not easy to find, thanks"
Looks like it will be here tomarrow!

sounds like first round testing cpu... i think the later chip came as an EO

Not sure who mentioned the dime between the sink and chip..but Im thinkin that if there is a bit of AS5 slapped on a penny..both sides, of course..and then bolted between.. You'd be straight!
EDIT: Didn't work well, not a suggested method.. Kidding, I'm not that gullable.- And pennies are copper plated, dimes are silver plated..or nickel plated..or somethin. Actually, the dime isnt a bad idea.. *referring to Dooks following post* Silver is the only metal that transfers heat better than copper...but silver plated vs. copper plated..hmmm.. Im gonna stick with AS5 of thermal blue pads.
-
That's not a bad idea and could possibly work. The only thing is a penny is thicker than a dime.

-
maybe bios 9c.11.00 will fix it
-
the reason why it's not fixed is because i dont think they ever tested it with a higher chip other than the 2.26 it came with.
-
-
Since you mentioned that it may be Vista causing the issue have you thought about throwing xp on there just for the heck of it ? . i should have tested it when i had xp on there because i knew how to reproduce the problem everytime in crysis to get it to spike to 98.
-
you know....i turned off every setting in rmclock and ran max voltage and it still helped with the tpz0 sensor, but when i stopped rmclock, it would shoot right up to 98. so maybe the temps are geared to 2.8 ghz because remember... i could not run my chip at 3.0 and only at 2.8....
we shall see today or tomorrow if his chip turns on..... but under your line of thinking....you could be right..it may not handle heat....
edit: quad, just run orthos. that thing will spike pretty quickly. -
off topic
yo E check the link. zenica posted his marks using a 9800m gt.

xp= 21 frames 1900x1200
vista= 14 frames 1900x1200 -
Holy shi t! That's a huge difference. Ive got an XP CD at home, and an extra HDD.. I just dont feel like dealing with the headache of updating all the drivers to work on the 7811. Eh, maybe I will eventually.. But, for gaming..obviously XP is a better choice. Heck, and like mentioned in previous post..maybe that will resolve TZS0. Worth a try, eh? It's gotta be easier than applying AS5 to that northbridge..again
-
you only need the main drivers forget sound and non essentials for the time being.
do your benchmarks and see what you get. if it does in fact produce better performance and no tzs0 sensor issues.... then you may have your solution. -
Does not work..will not post and if you look at the heatsink the chips comeS close to the sides! I doubt this heatsink was designed for use with a Quad.
Anything i should try? i tried ver 27 and 28 bios...looks like i could try QS=E0 or just get X9100. -
Well thats a bummer. i was concerned about the cores being to fat for the heat sink and it looks like there right on the edge but that wouldnt stop it from atleast posting.
-
edit: or is that just holding the cpu and you took it out and put it in the laptop -
that might be a tray they shipped it in ?
-
i like the tray allot!! *LOL*
-
-
Maybe the chip was DOA ? .
-
did it make any sounds at all?
-

They said october or november would be the production release of the quad-core supported BIOS. So, testing phase isn't complete..they have BIOSes from 1-28. So, it takes time to tweak and work out the bugs. Could u post a pic of the chip, and not cover the markings..please? -
kiddin, really.. but, I hope that ya manage to figure something out. At the least, get a refund.
-
-
-
wait! so you ripped out the whole cpu socket??
isn't the laptop toast now??? -
Lol i said the same thing to myself / Well i guess its time to bust out the coat hangers, crazy glue and duct tape and get that bad boy back together -
Why'd you censor the dangly bits?
-
Could be the seller had asked him not to post any pics of serial numbers etc as there not even available for retail yet ?
-
im thinking that line on the side is to cover where it got ripped out of the mother board...if ya ask me....*LOL*
-
He is willing to swap it out for X9100 ..but i'm wondering if maybe i should list it on ebay for $499 since there are 0 out there?
-
-
Ya just swap it dont even mess around . Didnt you destroy your machine though ?/
-
Update: The chip was not dead ...it was tested and works fine....1 of two things i think were the issue.
1: Some motherboards do not recognize A1 chips.
2: 7811fx does not support Q9100..but the beta bios have us thinking diff.
Either way i will wait for someone to try a version 6 stepping quad and rock this X9100 untill we know for sure! -
well....how ya like how that 9800m gts is treating you now?? it should be kicking butt!!
-
Much better than the 8700m GT i had in my Sager NP5793. -
-
It's fine...I still need quads though...I still do most of my gaming on 360 and ps3 anyway lol! -
you know what....so do i.... ps3 that is. and this lappy is a big kids toy.
