Noticed in another thread that you're a Best Buy employee. I had a question about the service plan offered for the Gateway notebooks. It says, and I quote:

    "3 - Year Performance Service Plan (Carry-In)"

The "carry-in" portion of that statement is what really concerns me because the nearest Best Buy stores to me are in either Springfield, OR or Reno, NV, both of which are a 4 hour drive from where I live. Since I obviously plan on ordering online, does that mean I absolutely have to physically take into the store myself for service? That is the impression I get from reading the full text of the plan description. Thanks in advance...

hmm thats a good question. I know that if you have to send it off you can have it send to you home address on the return... but as for the send off... They prob want the geek squad guys to look it over and make a tag to send it off.. but hmm you should be able to call the best buy number and have them send you a box if you are so far away. I'd ask a manager when you are in the store next, or either ill ask one thurs when i work again (whichever happens first). Im gonna find out for sure for you, but seems like they would send you a box. Only thing is they wouldnt really get to see the problem in person... but as of now i know 100% it can be sent to your house on the return. I'll ask

Thanks! I appreciate you taking the time to ask about it since I won't be in a Best Buy any time soon (although I'm sure my wife wouldn't mind a trip to Reno ;) ). I'll probably be making my purchase in the next 2-3 weeks, so I have another question. If we still haven't gotten a definitive answer by then, can I purchase the plan after I get the notebook or do I have to get it at the same time I purchase the computer? Thanks again!

You have 14 days to add the coverage on. You have to bring the machine in to be examined, however.
