I just purchased a REFURBISHED gateway mt3423. With it I Received a OEM disc of Vista home premium. I reinstalled the OS with the supplied disc, to install vista clean with out all the un-needed "bloatware". Vista was installed but none of the drivers for the hardware were included.
I downloaded all the drives supplied by gateway.com for this product. Installed all the updates provided by widows update website. Everything is working but i think it could be better.
For Example:
I know i have a realtek 8185 wireless device. In my device manager, my network adapter was listed as a trendnet device. I located and installed the realtek 8185 driver and every is as should be.
now my main question is:
My video card is NVIDIA GeFORCE GO 6100 WITH UP TO 256 MB TURBOCACHE.
So why can i barely run PC Games. Halo and Titan Quest for example require 64mb video card, and i can barely run those.
Also, after the clean vista install, for the windows experience Index i have a score of 3.0, determined by my gaming graphics score. I could swear that before the clean install of vista my windows experience index rating was higher then that.
If someone has a MT3423, still running the installed OS from GATEWAY, could they please tell me there Windows rating, I am sure it is higher then 3.0.
Secondary Question....
not sure what is meant by "WITH UP TO 256 MB TURBOCACHE". Could someone explain that to me. It sure sounds impressive....but i can't run doom 3 or F.E.A.R....
I would just do another install of vista from the sectioned recovery partition except it said it had no files when i attempted it, that was before going to the OEm vista disc supplied. So i just deleted that recovery partition.
Please help me if you can.

the 256MB turbocache RAM means that the video card takes 256 of your system RAM and uses it for graphics, helps with the processing.
are you trying Halo 2? the 6100 is an integrated graphics card and can hardy play games like FEAR and DOOM3. you should be safe with half life 2 and games pre 2005. -
awesome....thanks for your reply. No....wasn't trying halo 2, just halo, runs ok at low resolution and every video setting on low. Well at least now i know what the turbocache means, thanks for explaining that.
So...if anyone else has a "stock" MT3423 could you please inform me of your windows experience rating. -
honestly on my t-1616 i get 3.0 but that really doesnt dictate what games you can play.
6100 is a really old integrated graphics processor and i really wouldnt count of getting high res games. halo 1 should play alright, try lowering the resolution.. halo 1 works on my old geforce 2 32mb alright. -
thanks again.
