Hi, I would love to become a lucky owner of the laptop like many of you but there are a few things that I would like to know first.
I'm wondering how the native resolution (1920x1200) affects gameplay on certain demanding games (i.e crysis). If you decide to play in 1024x1*** or 1280x1*** will the game still look good because you're not at the preferred resolution for the screen. Do I have to absolutely play in 1920x1200 in order to have the best graphical gaming experience?

Also, I know the laptop is on the heavy side (9.2 lbs) and also quite thick (1.7") but how are you guys dealing with it? Is it really that bad when you take it from point A to point B? I'm going to start university soon, would you still recommend this laptop to me if I want to bring it to school?

    Thank you in advance! :)

im bringing mine to school, i dont find it cumbersome at all, I think it is really a good size for carrying around. You just need a large backpack.

IMO native will always look better then downscaling, but from what I hear the higher res screen you have, the better it looks to downscale.

running games on native on the 7811fx (1920x1200) takes a toll on the GPU since itll take a lot more juice for it to run on that reso though itll give u a more detailed graphics. when i say detailed graphics its the opposite of running it on 1440x900 which will give u a more pixelated(?) picture since your running it on a low reso but itll give u a better performance (more fps). so its a trade off for both reso's.

i own 2 different lappy with both different reso (1920 vs 1440) and from what i experienced. take a lot harder for you to read letters and words on the 1920 screen. i even run it on 1440 reso. but still it all boils down to personal preference.

I thought it was the other way around? I've never used a 1920x1200 display, but I was always under the impression that the farther away you get from a LCD's native resolution, the worse it'll look. For example, 1280x800 on a 1440x900 display should look better than 1280x800 on a 1920x1200 display.

Running out of the native resolution is more of a personal opinion to me . Some say it looks fine when they play there games in any resolution on there LCD while others like me hate running anything but native . If your concerned about it though i would head down to your local bestbuy and play around with the desktop on a 7811 and just look at the screen in all the different widescreen resolutions available. You may find it does not bother you at all .

I don't have one yet (plan on buying it soon) but Anandtech posted a great review (with gaming benchmarks, including Crysis!)

They were able to get a beta graphics drivers, and did have stability issues (they weren't sure what caused these, since they were using beta drivers and it was a pre-release laptop). They will post another review in the coming days/weeks.

But here is the review, with benchmarks:

That's what I was hoping for, anyone has a picture comparing the size of the p-7811FX to a 15.x" laptop?

Er... it's not exactly portable and I don't think it'd be very fun to lug around a school. You'd also need a larger-than-average bag.

I'll see if I can get a photo later comparing the Gateway to a 15.4" laptop.

Yeah, I personally wouldn't want to lug it around every day, especially with a couple textbooks thrown in on top of it. Not saying it can't be done, but it will be heavy and need a nice roomy bag.

Just downscale a res it's gonna look fine, I played wow with downscaled from 1920x1200 on a Dell it looks O.K.

Some display can look blurry when downscaled like my Dad's laptop, I don't know maybe it's just different type of screen but he has older dell so if you go with new 7811 you should be fine...
