The hard drive model # on my laptop says HTS541080G... but on the gateway site the specs say #HTS421280H9AT00. What's the difference?
I have the mx6421. I was just checking because others had problems with their hard drive and heat issues. I didn't experience that so I was curious to see if they all had the same hard drives. According to the website they use several different manufacturers including Hitachi.

The HTS541080G has 5,400 RPM and the HTS421280H9AT00 has 4,200 RPM.

Yep, as NetBrakr said. Gateway commonly uses upgraded components in units if there's an availability issue on parts.
You can't assume that all of a certain model will include the faster hard drive, but it's not unusual. It won't increase heat noticeably by getting a 5400RPM instead of a 4200RPM...noise, well, that'd vary from model to model. I guess it could drain a bit more power, but nothing dramatic. And since that model isn't an ultra-portable with a low-power setup, it's probably not something that bothers you. -
Thanks for the responses and clearing up the confusion.
Question: Why does the hard drive model
