Last Friday Gateway received my 6860FX which wouldn't start up at all, they sent me an e-mail saying that they had got the laptop and will send me another e-mail when they ship it back to me. my question is, will they let me know what the problem was, if they reformatted the hard drive or not, and what components they replaced? or is that my responsibility to find out those things? if yes, do they usually contact people via phone or e-mail? cuz i live in a college dorm with no telephone service except my cellphone which doesn't get calls from out of the state. thanks

there will be paper with the returned notebook work explaing what they did to correct the problem.
-
okay, thanks

Gateway Repair - the very thought makes me shiver
-
Just out of curiousity what were you doing to get all clobered up!?!? Or the last application that you were running before shut-down?
Thanks,
G! -
i was playing Gears of War, the irony is that the logo of that game is on the laptop itself.

I had to send my 6861 to gateway a couple of months ago. I was running on battery and plugged in the adapter and my motherboard fried. I contacted them by email. Went back and forth a few times. Arranged to send it out. In a week I got a message it was being returned and got it back promptly. There was a letter to what they did and its been pretty since. So service was not too bad. And I think Acer or someone like that bought them out because thats whose service sent it back.

yeah the building has a acer sign on the front of it. Still no word on mine though almost a month still same thing, waiting on a part lie

Maybe I lucked out with things turning over so smoothly. One week was pretty good I guess. Or maybe the mb was so cooked that there was nothing to debate about. And I mean't 6831 not 6861. Good luck with yours.

do you have to send the battery in?
i'm sending mine in cause the power button stopped working, and didn't plan on send the HDD in either, think it'll matter? -
i think they recommend people to send in laptops with batteries attached but not AC adapter. anyways, i was trying to get some info out of some guy at gateway and all he said was my system was under repair
btw, z37, when the motherboard died did your laptop power up at all? -
i might not send it in tomorrow, the instruction said not to wait more than 30 days and i've had the box for a few months, waiting for a response to see if i still can.
i'm wondering about the HDD cause i don't want to send it in and get wiped, i just finished doing a complete reinstall. -
i think you better call them on this matter
-
here's an update: i called gateway this morning and the guy said they are waiting for a motherboard to arrive which is unfortunately back ordered so it is hard to say when it will be available.
so apparently lukychmz, we are on the same boat
