Would a 5k 500GB drive perform as well as the 7k 160GB that came with the P-17x FX laptops? I'm looking for benchmarks for the 160 GB but all google search shows me is desktop drives.

With the specs of the P-17x FX, the 5K drive would do just fine, and it would be a bit quieter.

    cheers ...

About the same, a bit worse in some areas and a bit better in others.

Its about like comparing it to a 7200rpm 320GB drive. The benchmarks are pretty close between the two.

But you will have 3 times the storage capacity so with similar speeds and 3x storage i think its a better hard drive all around

Thanks! I think I'll go with the Hitachi 5k500 rather than waiting for the 7ks to start showing up.
