    Hi all,

I have one more question about the FX optical drive. I didn't want to post in my old thread because it seems pretty much dead. All I want to know is, for those of you with tray loaders, when you eject your drive, does the entire bezel come out with the tray, or is there still a "frame" left covering a part of the drive?

    Thanks!

The entire bezel comes with it, one piece.

Thanks! I guess then, theoretically, I should be able to attach my slot loading bezel to my tray loading optical drive anyway. I'll try it after class. In the mean time, if anyone happens to read this and thinks of a reason for why this wouldn't work, please let me know.

    Hey Danja

Did you try Ebay for a bezel for your your slot loading optical ?

Before you start "hacking and slash" i would try the Honk Kong Suppliers

    How about this Ebay seller

    Or this Seller

    Thanks Crazy Jay,

The problem with all of the bezels in the first link is that they sit flush to the drive, as opposed to the Gateway bezel that curves out. That leaves holes on either side of the drive, allowing things to get onto the mobo.

The drive in the second link is SATA and my mobo is, unfortunately, IDE.

Who are the Hong Kong suppliers?

Now that second drive is a killer deal on a Sony/NEC Optiarc BC5600S slot SATA Blur-Ray drive. Any 7811/1/5 owners should check it out as the internal version still goes for almost $300! Gut it and you're golden. Just need to come up with a bezel for a slot-load Gateway FX... :D

    :p at Tybalt.

I tried my bezel swapping experiment and it looks like the slot loading one connects to the drive differently than the tray loader, as there's no way to make it fit flush to the drive and chassis without physically removing some of the pegs.

:( at Gateway's warranty policy... I never realized they were so strict about it!

Does anyone know if "the part that must not be named" on the M6850 FX is the same as on the P series?
