Hello all, this forum convinced me to buy the 6860fx and pop a few upgrade parts in it for my new gaming laptop. I already purchased the extra hard drive for the raid-0. The question is, when you use gateway recovery center to create a recovery disk does it only copy whats on the extra partition or does it backup user installed software as well?

Only what is on the partition. You will need to do a clean install using the recovery DVD and the created DVD to get it back to factory loadout. However, you can download the drivers yourself and do a clean install using the DVD that came in the box, no extra bloatware software.

ahh thats why I was asking. If it did users programs as well I could install all my stuff on one set of dvd's while waiting for the new drive. But it looks like Ill just DL it all off gateways website and do it the cleaner way.

    Thanks

reason why they do it...because to many people COMPLAINED about not getting free software or FREE virus and spyware scanning software. and to test drive ms office for FREE instead of having to buy it when they already know they need it. ergo...trial software. the needs of many out weigh the needs of few. this is why we have bloat ware.

or... you can just copy the apps directory of the recovery partition to a blank dvd. it has all the drivers and the software that is installed on your computer.

True; the population of notebook review in no way represents the masses, however it would still be nice for there to be a non bloatware option - if I wanted to trial office I could always download if from the Microsoft website ect.

    ;)

I was going to follow your advice but it says that partition is protected by PC angel?! I googled it and dont see a simple way to access the partition. Am I missing something or should I just copy it from gateways website?

yes....very true. it should be right when you put in your information. they should have a screen that gives you a choice to install all, part or none of the extra software.

you need to click show all files to see the hidden partition.
