So I already popped in my second hd into my 6860FX. I'm itching to get raid on this laptop, but I am wondering how I would be able to keep my recovery partition and the ability to use the gateway recovery center. I'm kinda a noob when it comes to laptops (there! i said it!) but I learned from my mistakes pretty quickly. I would like to keep the recovery center if possible.

If I go into the drive and select all its 6.59GB(size) but Windows says its 7.99. I thought of adding the whole hard drive to a rar archive, would that work? Please I need ideas :D :D

When you setup RAID the controller completely wipes the drives in preparation for the array. As far as I know you will not be able to keep your recovery partition. However, all is not lost. Just make sure you create your Software and Drivers DVD from the Gateway program group and you will be fine when you do your reinstall. Just install Vista from the included Gateway DVD, then once installed run the Drivers and Software disc to install the drivers. I, however, do NOT recommend installing all the Gateway crap(ie unnecessary bloatware) back to the machine, but its your call.

How does one put another drive in this laptop? Is it a user-friendly thing to do?

Infoseeker: Its is extremely easy to do. Remove the screws from the HD cover panel on the bottom of the laptop, remove the empty HD cage, place new HD in the cage and put everything back together.

I know what dook guy said cause I did a similar thing when I did a fresh install of Ultimate x64 already, but has anyone been able to recreate the recovery partition on a raid setup? I know I am being picky, but I know how to do anything without it. I just want to know if anyone else has tried it cause I would like it.

Jesus Christ man! Bring it down a notch! The guy just asked a simple question, which actually pertains to the subject matter.

Why would I give him a link to an individual post if I was mad at him. I was messing around. Take a chill pill.
