Okay, so my smart (oh rather not so smart) brain, looked at these bad boys:

    Newegg.com - Kingston HyperX 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Laptop Memory Model KHX1600C9S3K2/8GX

and said, heck yeah, those are sexy, let's buy them...which I did... now reading a little finally I see that I am not running them at full speed. My question is, what's wrong with my memory? I see it running at 667 not 1066 which is stated to be the max right? Or am I reading this wrong. NEWBIE QUESTION...ahhhhh....

Also, is there a way to OC these at all? And I am about to get my X9100 here in a few days, hoping that'll be a sexy upgrade too...and worth it...

someone that knows the hardware of the P-7805u can answer this better, but I see no reason you shouldn't be running at 1066 for the RAM.

The only reason you might be slowed down is the amount.... looks like you went from 4GB to 8GB. It's not super common, but I have seen a BIOS have a "speed limit" depending on the RAM size or number of slots used.

Finally... it could be something as simple as your BIOS not being fully compatible with the RAM...

Your BIOS has a "list" of RAM it can ID and when it detects that RAM it will "max" it out. If that RAM isn't on the internal list, the BIOS will default to the slower or more compatible speeds. Generally a BIOS update is required to correct that type of issue... especially if you can't manually set the RAM settings in BIOS.

Just some general info, again... someone that lives/breaths that hardware should reply soon.

531 is 1/2 your 1066, that is the DDR. The nVidia overclock had nothing to do with system ram.................

The Intel chip in the P-7805u can only officially support 667*, 800, 1066 speeds so your system will default to 1066 even though your ram can handle higher speeds.

You can overclock your RAM from 1066 to something higher like 1333 by overclocking your CPU via FSB changes. This will require you to do a hardware modification to enable FSB overclocking and use something like SetFSB to overclock the CPU.

You may also need to tweak your memory settings using a program like MemSet so that your ram is still stable at the higher ram speeds.

I know that the NVidia OC has nothing to do with it. I was just using it as a background. What I am asking is it the readings from CPUID were correct for the type of RAM I am using. At the very least it should be reading 1066 correct? I thought it was 1066 each ram? Or is it suppose to be 531 each ram to equal 1066...

In the second pic, it shows max bandwidth 667Mhz. That's what I am trying to figure out really.

And also what the timings below mean in plain english. :)

the ram runs at 531 MHz, the ram though is DDR2 (Double Data Rate) making 1062 Mhz and then your ram is configured as dual channel...........

Timings mean latency, lower latency is always better but overall speed is usually more important than latency. For more specific info there is plenty of info available on the web, not much of it is plain english....................

DDR3 is newer format for DDR2, just lower voltages and higher clocks etc. sorry for the confusion..............

Edit, DDR and DDR3 are not pin compatible either, they just function pretty much the same.

Ok, now that makes some sense. I appreciate the info, love learning something new. I can't wait to Pimp-My-Laptop. I have a x9100 coming in, some ICD7 for CPU/GPU application, and then probably a 1920x1200 LCD as soon as I buy the correct one!

x9100 is the perfect cpu for these, get Throttle stop as well. Take your time with the tare down and all will be fine. A hint with the media bar. once all the screws are out open the display out as far as possible then use a letter opener in the right section where is covers the display hinge to pry it up. it lifts up easily from there.................

You can check your RAM usage in the task manager. If your RAM usage never gets close to 4GB, then more RAM won't make a difference. The only thing I know that people do with 8GB of RAM is use it for video editing. Also you can make a "RAM disk" where you can actually save and run stuff off of RAM, but it would be much better to get an SSD instead.

If you encroach the 4GB limit 8GB will help somewhat. The reason is behind the background disk and other cache is working against the free memory. Ig you have alot then the system has to dynamically adjust the cache les and can keep more data there without kicking it out.

Doing a picture edit along with some video encoding I got to 3.75 GB used. I know the 8GB was helping me out there, that however is a rare occasion. Now that I have the quad core I tend to multitask more without thinking about it, having 8GB is nice insurance but just that. There usually is no major performance increase and if there were to be one you wouldn't be asking if there was one just how fast can you get it!

In other words when you need 8GB you will know, till then don't bother.....................

thanks for the responses. I kind of figured that it wouldn't make much of a difference based on the articles i read online, but i figured maybe someone with my exact laptop might have a different opinion. I'm pretty sure ill just save my money. Thanks

Get the ones i got and get the x9100 from eBay. You will love your system upgrades. Very much worth it. The memory will get boosted because of the CPU upgrade too.

not too sure then, could be the memory is just incompatible. I do know our bios forces command rate 1T, if the memory will not run this then you are definately out of luck.............
