Its not too bad to disassemble. I've done it a few times and find it enjoyable, however, I love taking apart hardware :D

I can remember not all too long ago opening all my new tech toys with screwdriver in hand. Those days are quickly going by and I now enjoy when I don't have to take them apart. This though should yield a worth while return.

Between the cas3 2gb ram, Momentus XT 500gb and Windows 7 HP the L310 should make this a pretty good machine for my daughter. She is fine with the L110 in there now but the general experience with this will be just that much better.

    yea they are rare

first one I got when someone parted out a broken 5534 (soaked motherboard) so that one was $75 shipped for the unit

second one someone cracked the screen from it being in his bag when he was flying. He sold that entire unit for $60 shipped, and it came with 4gb RAM

Acer 5534-1096 is the best way to find this processor, there's a lot of the units and they should be relatively cheap nowadays. They feel cheaply made so there should be a lot of broken units.

CPU definitely makes a difference. My LT3103u has 0 problems with anything I do now, it used to have trouble just playing a 720p stream

That is what I am figuring. My daughter loves hers but said on occasion it will stutter. She said though that is ok because she loves the size. I figure this way I can keep the size and get rid of most of the stutter on the cheap.

When I first gave it too her she wouldn't touch it as she didn't like office 2007and Windows 7 was new to her from XP. Shortly after using it and seeing the advantages of the size and portability you couldn't get it out of her hands.

I just wish the second mini-PCIe slot was still in place so I could drop in a Broadcom Crystal HD for YouTube HD acceleration. If only I was good at SMT soldering.
