I have two MT6451's. I've have power and battery issues with both, but I've gotten one to work now. The more recent one was a rarely used one my business partner bought is son. It just sat in his bedroom. There's a years worth of updates just waiting to be installed.

Okay....this particular laptop will function perfectly with a good battery. It will, however, not work with the a/c adapter. The adapter is fine since it runs the identical laptop of my daughter. I use her laptop to recharge the only good battery between the two. (Yeah, one of the adapters and one of the batteries are fubar). So, I've slowly begun to process all the updates during battery charges hoping that there is a software glitch that is preventing the charger from functioning.

When you plug in the a/c adapter, at intrevals of just over a second the screen will go bright and at the same time the icon in the start bar will change to "charging" (plug and battery as opposed to just bat icon). But this is just a half second flicker, then off again.

I've tried the dance of removing and reinstalling battery and power chord. Nothing seems to work here.

Now, before we determine that the power jack is to blame, and that would be my first guess, I had it replaced. If there isn't a Vista hitch in this get along, then I'll resign myself to replacing it again....

here's the thing....I can get the screen to stop flickering, for a moment, by starting up a program. Then once the program loads, the flickering starts back up.

After reading all of this, perhaps someone could point me towards a fix. :)

wipeout: It's still early and I'm a first time poster..ya got to pay yer dues
wipeout: yeah man, I hear that, but I still think this one triggers avoidance
wipeout: nah, it may be that the answer is so common, I'm passed over as a true idiot
wipeout: there ya have it, they know you. :D

    this one triggers avoidance.

First I would try I bios update. If that doesn't help, look for any shorts.
Maybe two pins are touching somewhere...

Time to take it apart and look at every single pin you can find.

    good advice...

I know in the frontal lobes of my mind that it's a hardware issue, like the jack, but was hoping that it was a Vista bug that one of these 40 updates I have to go would fix it.

    Thanks for the input.

    :)
