Since we can have two HDD's and I'm not the biggest fan of Vista, I want to pick up a second HDD for this badboy. After my second installation of Vista due to faulty files and numerous performance woes in games and compatibility issues. I'm going back to XP and throwing my favorite linux flavor on here, but I still want a Vista install for the original HDD.

So, what's a great drive to pick up that's recommended?

Is it worth picking up a 7200rpm? I've heard that the platters are so small that it negates any sort of big performance jump. Not sure if that's true or not.

I'm not running raid, so I'm not worried about matching them for RAID 0.

with the 7200rpm, you're plunking on a hefty chunk of change extra for negligible performance increase. unless you mind sitting for an extra five seconds when loading levels on, say, crysis, you won't notice any considerable difference.

so, i say, save the money, go buy a 5400rpm

on top of what I just said, if you want a faster boot time, you may want to consider a relatively small 7200rpm hdd for just the boot sequence, not for storage.

I put a second WD Scorpio 320 in it (the same one it has) and then set it up in RAID 0. It is quick, especially when loading apps. A cheap upgrade too at $125.00.
