I' am having trouble trying to load the recovery program on my Gateway LT2016U netbook. Basicly I got it used and the owner put Ubuntu instead of Windows XP. I prefer Windows and I wanted to know how I can recover it back to new. I tried pressing F10 or F12 or F2 but it doesn't work. Also I tried to use my external CDROM to install it but after it loads all of the start up files to open setup it doesn't load completely to the set up where I set up the partition or stuff like that. I don't know if there is a raid but it's hard to find one. I prefer if possible that I can recover my notebook like new again though. I tried doing the stuff that was on Gateway website to recover but it's not working I wonder if I did someone wrong or is it possible that the recovery partition is gone?

I actualy found out that the partition for the recovery is gone so I will need to use a CD to install but. But I tried that also but I need a raid driver I think since it won't complete the setup so I can install XP on it. I can't find that raid for the HD so I can install Windows XP.

Check with the manufacture site support for your laptop make and model or serial number and that should at least point you in the right direction for the drivers that you will need. Otherwise you will have to call up the laptop manufacture and order yourself the recovery cd to reboot the netbook back to factory install. With the recovery partition gone your either have to have the XP installation disc and drivers to get it going but since it's a netbook you will need to load it from a usb drive or external cd/dvd drive to reinstall the O/S back. These are the options you have at this point in time.

Ubuntu installs a kernel "boot sector" that overwrites the standard boot you're used to. You shouldn't need a raid driver, just boot from the disc or USB drive and go through the install process. Format the entire partition when you get to that point. The install will ask you if you need to install third party raid drivers, just skip that and allow the OS to install. You shouldn't have an issue.
