LED occasionally will go briefly to red and then back to blue. Battery and adapter are both original Gateway. Battery icon on taskbar always shows fully charged 100%, i.e. no red x. Is this a sign of the battery going bad, a problem with the adapter or something internal to the charging circuit? The laptop is almost always used with ac adapter if that matters. I'm assuming I should replace the battery first and then the ac adapter?

would guess the power addaqpter is either not supplying enough power or the connection is breakingbecoming intermitent. It could be other things as well but hard to tell from here..................

    Thanks TANWare,
I do believe it is an intermittent problem, either with the charging port or the adapter. My cats have been known to pull on the charging cord at times, lol.I cleaned the plug and so far, it's been ok for 24 hours now.

Update: It turned out to be a bad battery. I found out you can't rely on the windows taskbar battery icon (it indicated fully charged, 100%). I also realize now I should have periodically run the laptop on battery power allowing it to discharge and recharge. I did get over 4 years from it so I guess I can't complain.
