    Reduce Hard Drive Heat

    I been reading around on the internet that one of Vista's features, Superfetch, causes hard drive thrashing, which results in more heat. It can also hurt gaming performance.

    So I followed steps to disable Superfetch and the first thing I've noticed is that my 7811FX's harddrive area is A LOT less hot. Before it was uncomfortable to rest my palm there due to the heat, but now it is fine.

    Anyone understand more about this?

    this is something that's been largely debated. I for one am an advocate of leaving it enabled. Lots of people who have the thrashing problem haven't given superfetch enough time (up to a few weeks) to learn the user's habits. Others say that turning it off will decrease thrashing, heat, and prolong HDD life. Anyway, lots of people disagree with those and other opinions. Here's a pretty extensive discussion on the topic:
