Get it as fast as possible. Just make sure you add in the price to buy a t9300. The t9300 is only necessary to play Crysis. Other than that you're ok with the t5550 for now.

I have a 6831 right now with the stock 5450. What kind of performance improvements can I realistically expect by upgrading? I've noticed the Mass Effect can occasionally get a little choppy with everything maxed out, but I attributed that to the limits of the video card. Would the CPU actually fix that?

LOL limits of your 8800m GTS. The stock cpu in the 6831 only uses a fraction of the true power of you 8800m. If you get a new cpu like the t9300 you will rape Mass Effect and any other game.

Your GPU is very powerful. Just that it is being stripped down by the cpu because the cpu cannot keep up with the gpu.

I play Crysis using CCC lvl4 at native res and i get 30 fps, and the low is like in the mid 20s which is very smooth. But mostly 30.

    The t9300 works wonders.

the cpu upgrade does wonders to this gem of a laptop. i had a T9300 laying around from my toshiba x205 that i used to have. granted i really dont have anything to compare to (6860 stock vs 6860 w/raid 0 and T9300) as the first ten minutes out of the box i installed the T9300 in the 6860.

psst rot...unless you have some super funky T9300 installed in your 6860, its 2.5ghz, not 2.53.

All right, i'm sold. I'm heading to ebay to scour out CPU auctions. Anything in particular I should watch out for? Any sellers you guys recommend?

    compare with the 7805

    Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 2.4GHz 3MB L2 Cache Socket P 25W Dual-Core Processor $229.99

    makes it 724+230 ~ 950 just like asus dv50

    also NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8800M GTS 512m< NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GTS 1g

    refurb 950+?? vs 1150

a.....7805 for 1050 is really a good price.

724 for 6860 might be a good one ..though refurb...
