Just received my P-7805 on Friday and went to try it out on Saturday. Plugged it in and pressed the power button and all of the lights come on but nothing on the screen, doesn't even ficker. I'm thinking that it could be that the ribbon for the screen is disconnected or something like that and was debating whether or not to open it up and take a look but was worried that there might be some sort of seal that they'll think that I was tampering with something. I'm planning on calling the 800 number from the refurb company on Monday but thought that if the ribbon was the issue I would be able to fix it myself well before I would be able to get a replacement unit. Other thoughts as to what it may be? Video card not seated fully?
Thanks,

make sure you dont have anything plugged into the USB ports and try rebooting again should work
-
Yeah, nothing plugged into it while trying to boot it up. Quite the bummer when you first try to power it up and nothing is displaying on the screen...
-
Makes you wonder what the "refurber" tech actually did, doesn't it?
-
When I received my refurb, the hard drive lid was put on incorrectly, and the tabs for it were bent towards the front.
-
I also noticed that one of the drive covers weren't put back on correctly... some of teh tabs weren't in where they were supposed to be. Guess I'll call the tech support line of the refub place tomorrow morning and see what they have to say.
-
They will probably say that they recently fired one of their Techs.
If they don't say that, they should. -
just curious, is the raid built in to this laptop already? plan to order one from tigerdirect. Can you put in second hard drive and setup raid yourself?

You might want to read through this thread:

From what I gather, all of the latest BIOS's will support RAID
so yes, you can add a second HD and set up RAID yourself. -
Well replacement laptop is scheduled for delivery tomorrow... hope this one is not a dud as well. TigerDirect was great in processing the return, I called them and had the laptop sent out the same day. Had some issues trying to get a hold of the refurb tech support line. Called them several times and total hold time was well over an hour and never got through. Finally did some searching on the web and they had a couple of the company's employee emails on the site so I sent a quick "complaint" email and they forwarded it to someone in tech support. They contacted me within 15 minutes of sending the e-mail... Might be helpful if anyone else is running into the same problems with their tech support number.

I got this laptop today works very well, tryed Oblivion on it worked fine, and a plus I got the 1920x1400 version
I hope it all works out for you.
Have you tried talking to Gateway itself? -
No, I hadn't tried Gateway. I figured that they would just refer me to the refurb place for service. Does Gateway have a warranty that they honor for these refurb laptops?
-
If you are refurb, Gateway doesn't care......at all.
-
Yeah, that's what I figured. Counting down the last couple of hours here at work so I can give the new laptop a workout this evening. Hopefully this one will have no issues....
-
Don't scare me please, i just ordered my refurb from tigerdirect so i hope its not a dud either.
-
i was scared to death getting my refurb from TD...thankfully it's turned out ok so far.
-
Same here just got mine yesterday, there is a 90-day warranty I believe (from tigerdirect) I was lucky too and got the 1920x1200 version.
So don't be scared there is a very little chance that you will get a dud -
hope i get the 1920x1200, how sweet is it man compared to the other standard resolution?
-
Got my replacement PC yesterday and am typing on it now. It really is a very sharp looking machine when you see it in person. I haven't run any benchmarking tests as of yet but am getting ready to download a couple to make sure all of the internals are up to par. Didn't get the 1920x1400 version but the screen is very crisp and I've noticed no dead pixels...
Good luck with yours when it arrives!!! -
Oh to bad you didn't get it it's bigger than my external monitor for my desktop
, It's pretty big compared to other resolution. But I don't use it for gaming, just for watching things.
-
Hey guys how long did it take you to get the laptop from tigerdirect. I live all the way in NYC so i'm hoping it comes before Saturday, ordered yesterday at 6pm T.T
-
I got mine in two days (not including weekends), the average is 2 or 3 days.
-

Yeah, but over the weekend they operate still, by moving your laptop closer to you area. The move it to different warehouses closer to your area basically.
