    I bought this laptop ( Gateway P-7908u FX)
    Code:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834101203
    I want to replace the 1440x900 WXGA 17"screen (that came with it) with a 1920x1200 WUXGA 17"screen.

    I spend all day looking for an exact match without any luck... but I did find a screen that is for the ( Gateway P-7805u FX). Will it fit and work flawlessly with the ( Gateway P-7908u FX) ?

    Code:

    or if it doesn't fit do you know where I can find one that fits?

    Replacing the screen is actually very easy but if you don't know watch these:
    Instructions - How to Replace a laptop screen

    Laptop LCD Screen Replacement

    I received this email from the seller:
    [email protected]

    ======================
    Dear Customer,

    Thanks for your business inquiry.

    Laptop LCD resolution mix and match or resolution upgrade or downgrade requests .

    We do not advice or support such requests. We have seen cases in which upgrading
    down grading LCD resolutions burns LCD cable and inverter. So we have stop supporting such requests. we don’t back up our warranty services in such RMA cases or nor we provide any technical support.we ask customer to make sure he is buying exact LCD resolution matching up with existing LCD resolution to avoid complications.

    ======================

    I think this is the sellers way of covering her/his back, but I thought that it might be a good advice to think about the inverter first before doing the upgrade.

    So how can I be sure that this wont happen? Has anyone tried this?

    the reason why some people burn out the inverter and such is because some people dont pay attention when they buy a screen as some screens use dual lamp or led and the like but for this particular laptop just buy one that was made for the 7805u and im pretty sure (not positive) it should work fine because even the first 7805u that were sold had that resolution screen. the only thing i can think of to make sure of compatibility is to ask someone that has switched out there screen to tell yah what kinda input voltage the replacement needs and then check if the screen you currently have matches that voltage. you could also try asking gateway but that would most likely get you no where because it would void your warranty.

    So I'm curious, did you go through with it? I'm looking at buying the P-7908u from newegg next Friday and am interested in doing this as well.

    If you live in california near LA, I would be glad to trade my 1920x1200 screen for your 1440x900 screen. I have a nvlddmkm error and thats pretty much the only thing that i havent tried to change.

    I bet its CCFL and not LED. Cannot swap one with another since CCFL requires an inverter. Thats what i think.

    0xGFX007 were you able to upgrade the screen from WxGA to WUxGA successfully on your P-79? I tried upgrading it with some WUXGA models but it didn't work for me. I did successfully upgrade a 7811 from WXGA to WUXGA on my friend's FX though. The problem is I don't remember the part # I used on my friend's.

    I am not sure of the part numbers but they should all be between the P78xx and P79xx the same screens in the various resolutions. I think the LG 1920x1200 screen though is supposed to be better than the AUO.

    Maybe this will help...............
