Hi folks I hope you can help me. Sorry if such a thread has been posted before, I did search but came up blank.

I need to get a new battery for my MD7820u laptop.

The battery it came with is:
    Sanyo Lithium Ion Battery Pack
    AS07B31
    Rating: 10.8V
    4400mAh/47.5Wh

There is also a sticker on it which says:
    914 BT006030429.....then more numbers.

The tech support from Gateway USA said I could get the following replacements:
    1) BATTERY 6-CELL LI-ION 4400MAH - SANYO AS-2007B 3S2P 4400MAH
    2) BATTERY 6-CELL LI-ION 4400MAH - SONY AS-2007B 3S2P SONY 4400MAH MAIN COMMON NORMAL TYPE
    3) BATTERY 6-CELL LI-ION 4400MAH - PANASONIC 4400MAH AS-2007B 3S2P 4400MAH
    4) BATTERY 6-CELL LI-ION 4400MAH - SIMPLO 4400MAH AS-2007B 3S2P 4400MAH

    They also said:
"You may use either 4800 mAh 8-cell Li-ion battery pack or 4400 mAh 6-cell Li-ion battery pack."

Now, I am having a hard time finding these on the net, especially as I am in Australia for quite a while so I need it shipped here.

I can, however find a lot of batteries that say they are suitable for my laptop model and have the same number AS07B31 or similar number AS07B42. The problem I have is that the voltage listed on these two items is 11.1V and 14.8V, respectively.

Since my current battery is 10.8V, are either of these OK to use? Does the voltage matter very much? (I have searched for info on the net but drawn a blank on the voltage question so far).

Any help you knowledgeable folks can offer would be most appreciated.

On a side note, the tech support also suggested I update my bios which I was unable to do either through double clicking the .exe in windows, or through writing the contents of the downloaded zip file to a cd and booting from that. Is my computer messed up if I am unable to update the bios?

    Thanks again ;)

its weird Gateway has not switched yet to the new Prismatic Lithium Ion batteries, basically instead of Round cells in a square box, which leaves voids and empty gaps. The new ones are square, so for teh same amount of space you get more battery.

I have the Sony battery you need. I got it for my daughter but she never used it for her Gateway Laptop I don't remember the model number of her computer but I do have the Sony AS-2007B LI-ION 3S2P Sony 6 CELL 4400MAH MAIN COMMON NORMAL TYPE. I have a copy of the receipt I could send you. I live in Hawaii but am willing to mail it to Australia you pay shipping and cost for battery. I will sell it reasonable cuz I have no use for it. I don't know how to contact you for I have just join this site.
    THANKS

The Voltage is important on the battery. You must look for AS07B31 10.8v.
It is true that you can easily find the 11.1v & 14.8v at very low prices.

I recently bought few of these for my customers and I had a hard time finding them. If you still did not manage to find one, let me know and I will see what I can do.

    Good luck,

So is it ok to use the 8-cell 14.8v? I'd rather not use another Sanyo since not only myself but what seems like everybody else having such bad luck with them. I asked Gateway support and got no answer.
