Hello, I recently purchased a Intel Core 2 Duo Processor model T9550 for my laptop. I replaced it with my old processor but when I turn the power on once the new processor is in the computer turns on for maybe five seconds and then turns back off again. Did I buy the wrong processor for my laptop or did I somehow put the new processor in wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That CPU won't work with the 6860 because of the 1066 MHz FSB.
    CPUs that work are the t8300, t9300, t9500, x7800, x7900, and x9000.

Thanks. This is what I was afraid would happen. I contacted Gateway before purchasing cpu and they said it was compatible with my computer. I could not find any OEM T9300 or T9500 cpu's, thus I got the T9550. I found only engineer versions, which Gateway said to stay away from. I purchased from Newegg and don't think I can get refund. Any suggestions how to sell the T9550 and where to get T9500? Also, am I correct to assume I cannot upgrade the FSB? Again, many thanks and I am "sick" right now over my $325 purchase.....expensive mistake.

    You cannot upgrade the FSB.

Have you tried contacting Newegg about returning it? They might be willing to let you return it without a restocking fee.

Thanks, but Newegg's policy is return for replacement only, no refunds. Do you think they might make an exception?

My cpu is 800 fsb and the t9550 fsb is 1066 fsb. That is the maximum fsb, so can the 1066 fsb go down to 800 fsb, or is it 1066 fsb only? Hope that makes sense? Is there a way to do this?

Really, trust us when we say it won't work. The chipset in your motherboard does not recognize the T9550.

The motherboard can downclock to match a slower CPU, i.e. in the case where a motherboard can use both the T6600 and T9550. T6600 is 800 Mhz, the T9550 is 1066 Mhz.

I trust you! Wish I had asked for advice here first, instead of Gateway. I guess I was just wishfully thinking there might be a way out of this mess....I appreciate everyone's help!
