    Hullo...
I have a Gateway 7422 laptop . The laptop was dropped and is experiencing a vertical band from POST to Windows.I have opened up the laptop and checked the video ribbon cable at both ends. I have connected to a external monitor and have experienced a normal screen. I tried replacing the entire screen with used one purchased on e-bay. When booting with new LCD I get only a completely white screen. When windows loads the screen is faint with multiple multicolor lines. I reinstalled the old screen and the old screen is clear with only the original band issue. Three questions for you...
    What causes the white band?
    Is the replacement screen faulty?
Can parts from either screen be canniblized to correct problem in either screen?
Contacted the seller from e-bay and was advised that switching the video ribbons will fix the problem.

I am A+ certifed on desktop repair but cannot find any resources to troubleshoot or correct problem

either the replacement is faulty OR you have a bad ribbon. connector. couldve been shaken up after the drop but im quite sure its the replacement.
