I'm running Dox 179.32 drivers on my 7811, and I've got a small resolution problem. You know how when you go into display settings, it gives you a bunch of resolutions to choose from? Well, my list has significantly decreased all of a sudden. I used to have like 30 choices, and now I have only about 12 or 14. I just installed nvidia tools, and I had ATItools, but I removed it. Could either of those things be causing the problem?

It's the driver youre using..those are the supported resolutions of that driver. Switch drivers and you'll find more/less resolutions.

No, it's not the driver. I've had this driver for a few days, and it's what gave me all those options. It just went down today. I didn't change the driver though. Actually, I'm starting to notice other weird stuff. My display turned off while I wasn't touching the mouse, which is never supposed to happen. I also checked my power settings, and the hard drives were turning off again after idling for a few minutes, even though I specifically set the to always be on. I'm going to look for more stuff that might have reset to defaults.

Also, I'll reinstall 179.32, even though I'm pretty sick of having to uninstall and reinstall drivers.

If you go into the screen properties under advanced and uncheck "hide modes this monitor cannot support" or whatever you get about a zillion choices with the DOX drivers I was using.

I can't find that checkbox. I didn't use RMClock either. I don't know. I guess I'll try reinstalling 179.32. It's probably more work than I have to do, but I'm guessing it'll fix the problem.

Uh-oh. I was sure reinstalling would get rid of it. Big Mike, can you give me more detail on how to get that checkbox. I go to Display Settings, then I the advanced settings button, and then what?

    I havent made a 179.32 o_0. My latest one is 181.22.
If you installed with modded inf from pieter then its not my drivers.

    What resolutions are you missing?

Oh, so it's not yours then. I got mine off of laptopvideo2go. I thought it was yours.

I'm missing, well, a lot of resolutions. I've go most of the common ones, but that's it. I used to have tons more. I even had 1366x768 and 1365x768, which I thought was a little pointless.

Well, while you're here, I guess I'll ask about your drivers then. A lot of drivers I've tried don't work as well with DX10. I play Far Cry 2, which can actually run a lot better under DX10, and that's why I was using 179.32. Which one of your drivers do you recommend for me?

Edit: Are the ones in your sig all the ones you made?

the ones saying dox optimised drivers are the ones I made.
the ones saying laptopvideo2go is not the ones I made, but the ones I made is kindly hosted there.

I know for a fact pieter has loads of resolutions.
Did you install with the MODDED inf?
If you installed 179.32 "out of the box" (no modded inf) then resolution support will be lacking compare to what pieter (modded inf maker) and I offer.

I installed the modded inf. How do I tell who made it though?

Oh, so I don't even have to download a modded inf for yours? That's cool. I'll download 181.22, test it out, and if it doesn't work well with DX10, I'll just go down the list. I see it says that you also add more resolutions, so if the problem still persists, then I'm going to uninstall nVidea tools. That's when the problem started, right after I installed that.

Hooray! It worked, and I have my resolutions back. Also, I like your installer.

Well, now the problem is that Far Cry 2 is running in window mode, but I don't know if that's related to the new drivers or not.

Oh, I was just being dumb. Alt-Enter fixed it.

Hey, I found out something. There's an option in the nVidia control panel that says "Manage custom resolutions". In there, you can create whatever resolution you want, and then it just adds it to your regular resolutions. Was that there to begin with? I don't remember seeing it before, and I think somebody would have told me about it by now.

Ahh... you can't make a resolution less than 800x600. I wanted to see what it would be like with a resolution of 768x480.
