I've been discussing finding a laptop over on HardForum.com and have come down to getting the P-7809u FX Edition and replacing the DVD burner with a BluRay drive. However, somebody there mentioned that there are rumors of Gateway putting out a new gaming laptop soon.

So... What say you, guys? Any credence to this?

Well it doesn't sound farfetched what with the upcoming mobile Calpella platform and Clevo already confirmed to release notebooks with the new platform.

You will definitely see a bunch of new notebooks on the market when Windows 7 is released to the public on October 22nd when the Core i7 mobile processors are released. I am sure Gateway will have a model out later this fall, before the end of the year with a quad-core processor. :)

The 7809 and 7807 are pretty old news, they were released about 2 months ago to net vendors.

The new FX is the 79xx series So far only released in Canada.

Well, the 7809 fits my bill quite nicely with a dual core and the 9800M GTS does more than I need (it'll kill TF2 at native res very well). Quad core at a lower clock won't do me any good as I don't use multi-threaded apps that really take advantage of that.

So... You think the 7809's going to disappear soon or overlap with the release of the 79xx?

Not sure really. The 7807/7809 are currently available only at net retailers, and the 7901/7902 are only available in canada... there is no telling when gateway will start its worldwide next gen releases.

    Lucky canadian gits ;)

I'm not really sure the US will see a new gen until the Win7 release. Which is fine, but seems an awfully long time to not have an FX in stores (like best buy that constantly sell out of them)

The only thing keeping me from buying now is wondering if the price will drop when the 7900s do show up.

What's the spec on the 7902? I haven't seen that one, yet.
